Children's Art Festival, Friday, 3:30 p.m.

The Children's Arts Festival provides a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to enjoy a day discovering the arts together. Hands-on arts activities and free performances provide a delightful celebration of the rich and cultural traditions that thrive in our own backyards. This year, festival activities will focus on being kind to our planet, so all crafts projects will be created from found and recycled objects easily found in the home.

Ehlers Recreation Center, 8150 Knott Ave., Buena Park, CA

Party for the Planet, Saturday, 11 a.m.

It is an all-Zoo event promoting conservation and is open to the general public. The activities will take place from 11:00am-2:00pm. There will be international crafts, compost demonstrations (with live worms!), a "Good Bugs & Bad Bugs" education station (with live bugs!), tips on recycling and a make your own birdfeeder craft! All this will be going on in addition to face painting, carousel & train rides, and so much more.

Santa Ana Zoo, 1801 E. Chestnut Ave., Santa Ana, CA; 714-953-8555

La Tierra Madre, Sunday, 1 p.m.

There is only one day a year designated to paying homage to our planet: Earth Day. Otherwise known as Tree-Hugger Appreciation Day, the holiday is meant to inspire all of us to go granola, if only for 24-hours. Trash clean-ups, smoke free zones and carpooling abound, but why not add to the environmental consciousness by joining the celebration at MOLAA, the Museum of Latin American Art, four days after the actual holiday itself? Their Sunday event, La Tierra Madre (the mother land), will provide information and resources to visitors about lessening carbon footprints, recycling, and making art from materials that would normally be wasted--reminding us all that Earth Day can be celebrated at any time, as long as you care about the environment.

Museum of Latin American Art, 628 Alamitos Ave., Long Beach, CA; 562-437-1689
