Ed McKie, 1958-2008

• Dear Mr Ed: Several years ago you, the Gemini Saint & a blind hippe took me under your wing & had faith in me at the absolute lowest point of my existence...I WILL NEVER forget your basic humanity, humor & singular worldview. I learned alot from you my friend. While you were complex and more faceted than a fucking mirrored disco ballyou will be sorely missed by many people from very diverse walks of life. From politicians to perverts! (the same really) The obit type usual cliches do not apply here..we are stunned... Some might want to focus on the more sordid aspects of your biography. THEY ARE WRONG...you overcame, and were an inspiration to some of us. I regret not sharing that with you; but sometimes you scare me & I do not frighten easily. GODSPEED. see you on the other side... May your Metheds dream come to fruition.

• I was waiting for a follow-up to this story...........I guess this counts as an update. RIP, man.

• Oh, Ed, I will so miss your marvelous grin, your incredible style, the sight of you wearing your huge yellow Elmo plush slippers with a tuxedo, and your unremitting energy for all things creative, artistic, whimsical, and alive. Here's to meeting often at the Gypsy Den - you in your spirit body and me in my earthly skin. I am forever grateful for the gift of your presence in my life. Rest easy knowing all of us who love you will carry on your work!

• Edward, It was a pleasure serving with you on the OC Methamphetamine Task Force and also being your friend. Your work will be continued--I promise. May you rest in peace.

• Rest in peace, Ed. Your dream lives on. Want to march in the parade next year again just for you, with a huge pink breast cancer flag, some cigarettes and a camera. Hope you left feeling loved and glad you left doing something that made you feel so inspired. You'll be missed.
