There are bishops (far too many) who don't speak out beacuse they KNOW they will not be promoted to a higher See, or that it WILL block their candidacy to the cardinalate. This type of careerism is among the greatest ills in the church today. It stops priests and bishops from speaking the truth, and induces them into doing and saying only what pleases their superiors - something that is a GREAT DISSERVICE (to The Pope, God, & the Laity). I could add that there is a grat vanity in the church! GREAT VANITY! One sees it in the dress. Cardinals have six meter long silk train(s). But continuously the church strips and redresses with useless (no real value) ornaments. There is a tendency to show off! (One Giant Drag Queen Show). I need to speak about certain things. It's part of the choice an elderly person makes. There are certain things I must say to the church. We are called to be transparent, to speak the truth. We need a great grace to do this, but those that can are free."

• Ah sure, but its our Catholic Church. Always imperfect always forgiven. More of a force for peace at any price than a force for change or social justice. That last is a formula for martyrdom - forget that! Feel the warm steady hand of the lord on your shoulders son, and slip into the somnulent reverie of devotion and allow your trespasses, and those who trespass against us, to slip away, forgiven. • Carlos X's comment: Bishop Thomas Paprocki, the guest homilist, spoke about the reality of good and evil and how that translates into the work of lawyers. ---In other words, how the church is willing to line the pockets of any attorneys and judges if necessary who are willing to protect the church's sex abuse cover-ups is how that statement translates to me. Then Carlos shared how Then Bishop Thomas Paprocki talked on social justice, but also talked about how social justice cannot be severed from the need to protect life, from which it proceeds. An Oasis of holiness in our week. It was a beautiful service. ---Come on, church officials need to protect the unborn comes out of their sick selfish motivation on how to supply either more kids to be molested or a tool to cover-up what they've done to the own sheep. Paprockis's calling child sex abuse victims who speak up, basically tools of the devil. That's really protecting and valueing kids??? If church officials won't care about the thousand upon thousands of kids they've detroyed or even come clean about it, why should anyone think they really care about the unborn. how sad. An Oasis for pedophiles and enablers, but certainly not a safe place for kids, vulnerable adults, clergy sex abuse victims and the unborn. how can they speak for the unborn when they could give a shit about the ones already born and whom they've abused. what a pr sham, the good ol Catholic church is still using it's same bankrupts morals and pr stunts. That should be an insult to every reasonable thinking citizen intelligence. In short, the homily was "protect our asses", and take advantage of our flocks.

• "The smoke of satan has been allowed to enter the church." Those are the words of St. Pius X; and later used in the Report of the National Review Board, set up by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to investigate the sexual abuse of children and young people of the Roman Catholic Church. But neither the pope nor the review board were speaking of the victims who were raped and sodomized by RC Clergy when they mentioned satan. The priests, brothers, deacona, nuns and bishops (Lowerarchy) are the evil in the RCC. That is the smoke of satan, not the innocent children who were lost to the faith they once loved. I am always amazed that when these faker clergy say mass, the Host doesn't sizzle between their fingers.

• Hey Carlos: Where's the Catholic bashing? Did you ask Paprocki why he says Satan motivates sex-abuse victims? Did you talk to the sex-abuse victims outside? Ask the St. Thomas More Society why did they ever honor Peter Callahan, or if they've ever done anything for sex-abuse victims? Or do you just like your bubble? Finally, Joelle is a woman, not a man.

• Hate to interrupt the Catholic-bashing, but unlike the regular columnist, I attended the Red Mass, and unlike the guest columnist, I attended the whole thing, including the homily. The attendance was very respectable for a weeknight, a work night, and the night of a make-or-break Angels game. Still, the St. Thos. More Society got commitments from the largest number of judges they have ever had for Monday's ceremony. On the subject of angels, Bishop Thomas Paprocki, the guest homilist, spoke about the reality of good and evil and how that translates into the work of lawyers. Since the columnist did not attend the entire homily, it seems disengenous that he would try to cast it as "a backhanded way to tell people that voting democrat is a sin." Bishop Paprocki spoke very well and very eloquently about the social justice, but also how social justice cannot be severed from the need to protect life, from which it proceeds. The Vocal Ensemble, De Angelis, made this working Monday an oasis of holiness in our week. It was a beautiful service.

• Maybe the Judges and attorneys in OC are starting to understand the need to protect the fair administration of justice, free of the Catholic good 'ol boy/girl network and/or the appearance of bias and preferential treatment. One has to wonder if non-Catholic attorneys are at a disadvantage because the Red Mass is such a yearly production, with public advertisement and financial donations from judicial officials. To Albino Luciano.... yeh, you are right! The shades definitely resemble LA COSA NOSTRA CURIA.... maybe it is considered "gang wear" or "mob wear" in the world of religion.
