• In your footnotes, you mention, "The Halloween segregationists live in Floral Park." I have not read your book, Gustavo (quit whining, I plan on buying a copy) , but I will assume you are talking about the Muthuhs of Floral Park. Well, this is one mother living in Floral Park who insists that her lily-white kiddos trick-or-treat when they are supposed to - that is, on Halloween night, along with the little brown kids who come into the neighborhood and seem to be the only ones who have the good manners to say "thank you" after receiving their candy. I have always been uneasy about that practice of setting aside a special time (and date) for the Floral Park kids to go trick-or-treating - especially when in the past I have noticed at times that the ones promulgating aforesaid practice are then dark on Halloween night. No pastelitos for THOSE OTHER kids! But what do I know? I put up a Day of the Dead ofrenda instead of some gorefest (Hollywood gore, not Big Al from Tennessee) on my front lawn for the holiday. Maybe that's why I get such foot traffic - that, and the fact I hand out a lot of candy. And the good stuff, too . . .
