Horrifying Dog Abuse in OC Captured on Video

Several months ago, I drove three times to visit the Santa Ana Police Department Animal Control to report a neighbor's dog abuse. I was told my word wasn't good enough--that I needed evidence such as photographs, video--proving the abuse.

Today, I went home for lunch and found another neighbor repeatedly punching, choking and strangling her small dog in the courtyard of my condo complex.

An immediate call to a local animal cruelty organization produced only a figurative shoulder shrug and a suggestion to call the Santa Ana police.

In a call to Santa Ana police, an officer said they were too busy to listen to my report today but will "try to call" tomorrow.

If you'd like the authorities to act with a bit more urgency, call the department at 1-714-245-8665 or the Orange County District Attorney's office at 1-714-834-3600.

WARNING: This woman's behavior is extremely disturbing.

To the person who witnessed their neighbor abusing their pet.  I would call animal control, take photos with your camera phone if possible.  Find out where the neighbor lives for animal control.  You can also approach the neighbor and tell them to stop it and that there is no reason for their abuse, yell it from afar if you have to.  Follow it up by reporting it to the apartment management and the authorities (everyone that you can think of).  Find other witnesses and have them report it too.  There is no excuse for abuse and this woman needs to know that she cannot get away with it.  Your silence speaks as though it is OK for her to continue this abuse, even though it angers and/or sickens you, you must speak up to her and the authorities.

A Non-Idiot
A Non-Idiot

To Pete Fundy: You are an idiot who talks too much.

To the people who say Scott Moxley was a coward for not stopping the woman: You are missing the point. He did the one thing that is guaranteed to stop her, save the dog from a fate worse than one single beating, and get her the help she needs. (See his update on this story for proof).

And Scott a coward? He's got more balls than any reporter in Orange County.

Before this Weekly-inspired lynch mob begins macrameing this young woman a Texas necktie, has anyone considered the possibility that this woman is mentally challenged?

Worse yet, what if the dog deserved it? Like it or not, this video clearly does not tell the whole story, so we should all just calm down and let the authorities look into the matter. If, of course, they've got nothing else going on.

I have just sent off an e-mail to each of these addy's that were posted. I have not hidden who I am nor have I hidden the fact that I can pull this up on our wildlife site which live streams wildlife around the world and has at the min 450,000 viewers a month. I have asked for an immediate response of what is going on here, what has been done, and what has not been done. If anyone on here knows more, PLEASE keep me posted. I a so disgusted, I could barely even type this. To the gentleman who took this video, HATS OFF TO YOU. For if it had not been for your courage and your ability to stay quite so you could capture this, NOTHING would ever get done. I am sure if she had tried to kill it, have no doubt what so ever you would leaped off that balcony to save that poor little puppy. Wish there were more people like you in this world.

The puppy throwing video was not fake. The Marine Corps in Hawaii issued a news release in June saying Lance Cpl. David Motari received non-judicial punishment and was expelled from the service and you read comments from the man himself.

"David Motari speaks"Puppy killer" claims he was only being "creative" by tossing dog to its deathFriday 7 March 2008

On his profile at Bebo.com, Lance Cpl. David Motari of the U.S. Marines defends his tossing of a small puppy off a cliff:

What, you expect me to carry a stray sick dog from patrol 10+ miles back to camp with me. Did you know that we're not supposed to have dogs? Did you know that there isn't medicine available for animals out there? So what the fuck do you want me to do with it. It was going to side a slow and horrible death.

Sorry you guys saw that, but it wasn't supposed to ever [sic] been shown. Usually what happens is we shoot them. I was being "creative" that day and decided to throw the dog instead. If I could take it back, I would. Either way, I did the dog a favor. Sorry if you can't understand that.

This would confirm that the dog was indeed alive and not already deceased, as some have speculated. If it is considered "humane" to put dogs to deathas many animal services agencies dofor being mangy, stray, old, or sick, then Motari's actions can hardly deserve the sort of villification he and his family have been receiving.

Motari's family in Monroe, WA have received a number of death threats, prompting police to guard their home. Real estate agent Rayane Motari, David's mother, has had her profile deleted from a website for realtors and her mobile phone number posted around the internet alongside urgings to harass the poor womanwho will likely not sell any homes this week. The amount of hardship, harassment, and inconvenience the entire Motari family is being forced to endure over this incident is entirely out of proportion to the severity of David Motari's actions.

Whether the Marines have an official or unofficial policy of killing stray dogs I don't know, but regardless of the sensationalism surrounding this story there are so many more atrocious acts by the U.S. Military that have been documented on video but have not gathered the attention of the international media.

In a sick twist, an American general public that unnecessarily indulges in all-you-can-eat ribs and other delights of the flesh seems to have less sympathy for unarmed Iraqi motorists shot dead without reason than they do for a lost sick puppy in a country that has so many stray pooches they might as well be vermin.

Motari ought not to be prosecuted, court-martialled, dishonorably discharged, or harassedhe's already suffered more than he deserves. While we don't know the circumstances behind his finding this puppy, it's clear enough that his most major mistake was to have been so "creative" as to turn a dog disposal into a video skit that would later be seen by millions."

Has any action been taken by the authorities? Any update?

On Animal Planet's Animal Cops Detroit/Miami/Houston shows, reporting abuse (without video or photographs as proof) results in one of the investigators making a call. Perhaps it varies by jurisdiction? Those that have full-time cruelty investigators can take faster action?

Just horrible what happens to innocent trusting animals.

Wow.... just fucking wow. If she does that to a dog, just imagine what she does to her children behind closed doors. Its almost as bad as the lady that hit her kid in the side of the head with a loaded shopping back. release the addy of this pos, they need to save that dog. she could be causing brain damage as I write this post.

I believe her punishment should be in scale to the beating that she gave the dog, eg: a heavy weight boxer bare handed punching her face screaming that it doesn't hurt, and stop whinning.

I put this lady in the same tier as that marine that threw the puppy off the cliff.

ps. you should have "knocked" a potted plant onto her.

I sent link and video to numerous news orginizations. Also every place I could contact someone at Fox News.Maybe this will get shown on national air time and Santa Ana Police will get off their rears.

Some people may say "It's just an animal". Well, animals have more compasion and love for humans then we do ourselves.Just think how this women would treat, if she does not some already, her children!!You may be seeing her abusing a small child or baby in same fashion.

Ben: I'll email you the exact address no later than 10 am toda--that is, if you didn't figure it out already.

Folks: Gracias for your concern in this. Please call the numbers that Scott provided and voice your disgust with Santa Ana law enforcement not caring about animals.

Marc Morin

Raymond,

Yes, it may be "a freakin animal", but you should STILL be concerned.

Why?

Because there's research--done both by law enforcement and by psychologists--showing that people who abuse/torture animals, eventually "graduate" to abusing/torturing people.

Furthermore--just in case you don't watch "Animal Cops" on Animal Planet--alot of the animals (mostly dogs), that are abused, neglected and/or tortured, usually belong to people who tend to be involved in criminal activity (e.g., drug dealing, robbery, assault, etc.).

Raymond
Raymond

It is a freakin animal. I swear people care more about an animal than a human being. It just bugs me when you see the fire department being called out to rescue a animal from a tree or ditch. To me this is just a waste of tax payers dollars. There are worst things in the world going on right now but instead people are worried about animal cruelty.

Bob Squalonero

I'd call the woman a "bitch", but then that would be insulting every female dog on earth (past, present & future).

Did she take page out of the Nazi handbook on torturing, or what?

SeBen Dayhoe

Shac. I love your logic:1. Only Asians beat dogs.

2. Scott should have approached the crazy lady and told her he'll be reporting her to the authorities, only to be stabbed by her equally crazy husband (or kids) when he gets home from work.

It's easy to "should" others when you don't have to get your hands dirty.

Scott, we'll get this taken care of today.

At approx. 4.30 a.m. Tuesday morning I spoke with the S.A.P.D. watch commander Sgt. Tony Miranda and passed along the details (and the web address) of Mr. Moxley's blog, about which Sgt. Miranda said he was unaware. Sgt. Miranda said he would pass the info along to the department's Public Information Officer, Cpl. Jose Gonzalez, and he advised me to call the P.I.O. myself when he came on duty at 8.00 a.m. The P.I.O's number, for anyone else who wants to call, is 714-245-8715.

A couple of years ago while I was home sick with the flu, my dog had gotten loose without my knowledge. When I heard my dog barking in the front yard, I opened the front door and there was a well-known blond female Santa Ana Animal Control officer chasing her. She said "Is that your dog?" and I told yes and that I didn't even know she had got out (my dog was great at finding new ways to escape). Well the officer was pretty upset because she said she was chasing my dog for 45 minutes. She demanded my dog's rabies certificate. I asked her if she would give me a break because I had the flu and I was feeling horrible and I needed to lay down. She didn't care. My dog had a license and identification around her collar but that wasn't enough for the officer. I got the rabies certificate and the officer proceeded to give me a $300 plus ticket (which I got reduced in court by the way). Then another officer came and was just standing there staring at me. I asked Officer Blondie why he was there and she said she had to call for backup. OMG! I'm a good citizen, I use my blinkers even is there is nobody else around, pay my taxes, my dogs are licensed and she treated me like a bad citizen. After seeing this video, I hope and pray that Officer Blondie treats this broad worse than she treated me. Now she is a person that deserves it. And for public pressure, I wonder if some psycho out there will hit, slap, and drag her the same way she did to her dog.

I understand why Scott Moxley did what he did. About a year ago, I asked the Santa Ana cops to stop my neighbor from beating his little dog with a belt and they said they wouldn't do anything until I had proved to them that it was happening. Quickly posting this disgusting footage on the internet after the cops refused to step in right away was smart because it is probably the fastest way to save that poor dog from that woman--if there is public pressure.
