For those who are reading and writing, why not do something about it. We are given the power of free will. Do not complain take action! we are 1 billion strong after all, the church is a beacon to find god but once found our communication with god is 1 on 1. Its our job to protect each other! Be the Shepherd we so often hear about and would love to be. Remove the demons that plague the church and its people. Power of words can sway the pillars of heaven just make sure they are the right ones. Remember hells is not a boiling place, hell is knowing god exist yet not being able to feel his love. (Lori i am sorry to say it but the demons have done their job, they have taken something good from you and turned it into hate) God may or may not exist for people, but for me he is their every time i've needed him even when his answers or response is something i wouldn't want to hear...

• Lori Let's get is straight. One can still have faith and recognize an human organization or inside boys club from a laity that is faithful, loving and supports its own. Some may blindly turn the other cheek to a Urell, but I have never been silent about Coughlin, nor will I. While Urell and others may think time will heal all wounds, I doubt SNAP will ever stop hounding them. Please do not attempt to tell me their isn't anger within SNAP, I have seen it. • My friend killed himself a few years ago because he could not reconcile the abuse he received at the hands of father coughlin. Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding richard still is a father and fouls the Eucharist with his wretched hands. Lori, you may have reconciled, but it is not your place to tells others particularly those who are now dead as a result. Criminals need to go to jail Lori. Did leniham ever serve? The Church laity who now has to pay for their own finger prints (in some cases multiple times) in order to participate in any events where children are sponsored is largely put in place due to the transgressions of folks who are still in office and positions of authority who either are complicit themselves in circumstances themselves, or knowingly will not out their black cloth brothers. It is pleasing to know 1 abused individual has found peace. My friend found his at the end of a rope. My anger towards coughlin will stay in place until he is found at the end of one as well. • An open letter to all the Matt/Jubal haters... My name is Lori Haigh. As some of you know, this whole Urell issue has been very difficult for some of us who endured it first hand. When I first learned of the "Friends of Urell" defense team headed by Matt Cunningham, I was aghast. Feelings of betrayal overtook me to places of extreme despair. I contacted Matt months back to let him know how much I didn't appreciate his position nor his blindness. After reading his blog I also realized we didn't see eye to eye on many political issues either. Needless to say I didn't like Matt very much. Over the course of the months that proceeded, it was Matt who continued to ask me.. "How can I help you, is there anything I can do?" He had told me that he wished that Mon. Urell would apologize to those he had hurt. He told me many things about how he felt, which I dont feel at liberty to go into, but I must say, I took him up on his offer to offer me help. I am here to say that Matt Cunningham went out on a huge limb for me. He stood up for me and defended me regarding a situation that I was unable to rectify for many years. A situation that had been haunting me and eating at me for a very long time. He put his reputation on the line in a very conservative forum to defend me. Matt has stayed my friend over the past year. Although I will admit that I don't read his blog, we exchange emails and he asks about my boys. He checks to see how I am doing and if I am ok. He has never once brought my name up in any of these blogs in his own defense. He hasn't mentioned the fact that he knows me nor has he gloated about the request for help I made to him nor his ability to find a way to right a terrible wrong for me. My life is better for knowing Matt today. The hatred spewed back and forth within the confines of these comments makes me sick. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Both sides. The attacks made on each other is evil, it's not right. Mercy, forgiveness, redemption... they are the hardest things to fully come to terms with. But in this whole group of people here on this blog.. it has been Matt Cunningham who has extended the most to me. It's only my 2 cents, for what it is worth, but I am here to defend the fact that Matt did help the helpless.. he helped me. In such a huge way I can't even tell you. I admire the fact he has never thrown the fact out in his own defense over the past 6 months. He has never even mentioned that he knows me. It is the silent acts of charity that mean the most. • Jubal: I guess there's no need for me to comment-judging from the responses I read from other posters, I can see that I'm not alone in my sentiment about you. I hope it's comforting for you to go home at night, knowing so many oc residents think so highly of you. • For 6 months during prayer of the faithful we prayed for Msgr John. Not once did we prayer for those who were abused and still suffering or those in which they took their own lives because they couldn't live with the pain any longer. No sorry I was installed here 5 years prior because you are such a dynamic parish (he wanted this commission). St. Timothy is probably better off with a newbie Pastor. Many of the new or younger priests have plenty of spirit. When backed with a laity like at St Norbert, they can do anything. I cannot wait for September 1st.

In regard to the above post and on the way home from John Lenihan's first Mass at St. Edward's, I remember discussing with my daughters Lenihan's statements from the podium about rumors relating to he and a teenage girl. All of my daughters were attending St. Edward's school at the time and at first, they seemed concerned about what Lenihan had said in Mass. They asked the typical questions... why did it happen and why is he still a priest? I am embarassed to publicly admit that my response to the girls was..... "Girls, remember he was being honest about the RUMORS.... it is important that we never JUDGE another person, especially a priest who is honest about rumors... honest enough to tell his new parishoners in Mass. Fr. Lenihan's honesty is a good sign of the kind of person and priest he is. This will be good for St. Edward's." WHY DIDN'T I LISTEN TO MY CHILDREN? Because at one time, I too believed that when a priest spoke in and out of Mass, he was Christ's representative here on earth. My children were intuitive that day... why didn't I ask more questions? God gives us children because they are pure and bring new life to the world. Yet, in the Catholic Church, children were destroyed, with a total disregard for their innocence and vulnerability. And Bishops are too busy protecting their worldly possessions to see the truths, hoping that paying millions of dollars in settlements will make everything go away. Children do not donate to the Church, their parents do. Donating parents refuse to believe that God's most precious gift to this world were destroyed. Bishop Brown does not understand that millions of dollars to settle lawsuits is just the first step in renewing communities of faith, teaching our children about doing the right thing, is the next. MY EYES OPENED!!! Mary Grant, Lori Haigh and many many many others victims of heinous sex crimes are NOT rumors! Lenihan did give me a gift in September 2001, he told me that Mike and I should get married civilly because an anulment could take 3 to 4 years in the Diocese of Orange. We were then married in November 2001.... and waiting 3 to 4 years for the Diocese of Orange to BLESS our marriage, is very hard to understand now that the evil crimes that destroyed lives of children and families are no longer just RUMORS! This reminds me of when John Lenihan was assigned to St. Edwards's in Dana Point. My children and I were at the first Mass Lenihan celebrated. Lenihan stood at the podium and announced at every Mass that there were rumors about he and a teenage girl, downplayed the so called rumors and stated the RUMORS had been resolved. Nothing was further from the truth! Mary Grant and Lori Haigh are NOT rumors! They are precious, real and beautiful ladies who were victims of a politically-connected sexual predator, like so many others who were NEVER protected by the powerful Catholic hierarchy. Will Mon. Urell stand before parishoners at St. Tim's first Mass and tell them that they are only hearing rumors about his protecting of sexual predators that destroyed precious children and families?
