• On Nov 17, John Hanna came out against child victims of abuse. He also engaged in his own physical altercation at the California Democratic Party resolutions committee meeting. • There is no longer any doubt in my mind that the "Friends of Msgr. John" is a self-serving ENABLING tool to further assist the Diocese of Orange, Bishop Brown and his attorneys, in cover ups, PR spin and aiding and abetting sex crimes. 1. Since the website was created, there are only THREE comments posted and multiple comments have been submitted and never posted. If the website was a good faith effort to support Mon. Urell and openness for support of sex abuse crimes committed by employees of the Diocese, this scenario would be very different. 2. Why would anyone post a deposition with the names of sex abuse victims in it, without the direction of an attorney representing the Diocese of Orange, Mon. Urell, Bishop Brown and the many others? How many times will Diocesan supporters vicariously traumatize sex abuse victims? 3. Or, maybe "Friends of Msgr. John" did get the permission of Diocesan attorneys and the General Counsel and were hoping for a BIG PAY day in court, in the event defamation or slander was posted on the website. Sadly, "Friends of Msgr. John" and the Diocese really do not get it.... and victims of sex crimes and their families continually make efforts to seek truths and justice, without self-serving ENABLING tools. They want children in the future to be safe!!!!! 4. Whoever authorized the "disclosure" on the "Friends of Msgr. John" website, needs to be disbarred and return to legal conflicts of interest curriculum... and whoever authorized Matt Cunningham's website link needs to be disbarred. Is there spyware on Cunningham's website that records all the IP addresses, with hope that posts will be damaging enough to sue in a court of law, thereby replenishing the Diocesan financial portfolio? Hopefully, Mon. Urell does not have access to a computer... If he does, his acute anxiety disorder will transition to a permanent disability sooner than later.

• Mr. Hanna - Unfortunately, your role with the RSCCD is relevant to your role with the "Friends of Msgr. Urell." Especially since now the group has outed victims of sexual abuse without their permission. Including a police officer. If an employee of the RSCCD had done the things that Urell had - as exposed in documents - he would have lost his job. In fact, his actions went against the Student Code of Conduct posted on your website. You have the right to quietly support those you "feel sorry for." But as a public figure, you put the reputation of the board and the college district on the line when you put your name on the press release. Am I suggesting you go underground? No. I am just suggesting that you do a little research before you throw your considerable weight behind a cause. Mr. Cunningham is a mouthpiece ... you are in charge of a large, diverse and vulnerable student population. You have a higher responsibility.

• Mr. H: Go back and read the posts. I was accused of throwing the name of my college district around and simply responded that I did not do that. I didn't "blame" the press--they are just doing their job-- but was simply setting the record straight. As for your last paragraph, I have no idea what you're talking about and certainly have no intention of responding to f bombs and name calling.

• Mr. Hanna, If your invovlement was personal as you claim, then a nice note or letter sent to John Urell himself would have been a nice and personal gesture. BUT, By purchasing a year long contract for a webpage and opening a PO Box for mail unfortunatly makes yor personal involvement a bit more of a public spectical. One you enter the arena of public displays of support, you and everything you stand for and represent now become in focus as well. Dont blame the media and reporters for "outing" anything. They will dig and dig until their fingers bleed. If it's so personal, then don't take calls from reporters. P.S. And as far as the timeline, using the "one day this, the next day that" is called a turn of phrase. To say "one day he was a rich bishop and the next day he was living in a condo in phoenix" doesnt mean it all happened in two fucking days you idiot.

• Survivor: As I commented, maybe I should have gone up to Ms. Gray and Ms. Ruiz. But the reason I did not was not because I was scared as you suggest. I just thought it wasn't the time and place. Of note, even M. Gray commented that she would have preferred the Bishop communicate his expressions to her over the phone rather then at a press conference. But again I have sent notes to all four of the victims. And let me make it clear--I never used the name of the college district when discussing this nor was it on the press release. It didn't even come up in the first conversation I had with the Register reporter--she called me up later and asked me if I was on any boards and I honestly answered her question. Gustavo did not talk to me but knows who I am and so put that in. My involvement is personal and nothing to do with the district or my political party, which was also mentioned.

• Mr. Hanna: You really should have gone up to Sarah and Christina and expressed your support. As a survivor, I know that there is never a bad time to tell someone that you support her and her struggle. Sometimes the hard thing to do is the right thing to do. But I am perplexed - you are scared to tell a victim that you support her, yet have no problem throwing your name and the name of the RSCCD behind a man who (one example only) tried to pay off a priest they knew was molesting kids (Christian Andersen). Matt and the OC Blog are one thing - but you oversee a public educational institution. One that educates minors. I am also waiting to see how Gene Howard (CEO of Orangewood and member of the Diocese review board) weighs in on this. Both of you are putting the reputations of good institutions on the line to protect men who have been PROVEN to protect molesters. That's troubling.

Rachanee usually covers the Catholic sex-abuse scandal for the <i>Register</i>; for whatever reason, she hasn't been at any of the conferences. In her place is longtime crime reporter Larry Welborn. That's what organizations who purport to cover both sides do--you know this. So the question remains: why didn't OC Blog cover the victims' first (or second) conference? I didn't. Since you are devoid of facts in this argument, I'll supply you with some. I spent all day in an airplane with my family flying back from a week vacation during which I didn't even answer my phone. We walked through our door shortly before midnight. We slept in half of Sunday because our body clocks were way off, and then took the kids to the parish fiesta. My computer had a meltdown and wouldn't boot up, so I wasn't checking my e-mail (not that it would have done any good, since I received no notification from Manly and Company about the press conference. But they were sure to tell you and the rest of the media. I wonder why?). Monday morning I got the kids ready, dropped them off at school, zipped off to Irvine for a client meeting the rest of the morning, and spent the rest of the day - except for a useless hour on the phone with tech support -- out of the house on business. <i>I know you're not lazy, but in light of your avowed interest in defending Urell, not attending the victim's press conference on Monday speaks volumes about your biases in this story.</i> And your continued baseless and rebutted insistence that I avoided attending the press conference speaks volumes about your biases. <i>The victims had another press conference yesterday, just before the diocese did. Why didn't you cover that?</i> Because I was inside the courthouse with half of the other media in attendance with Callahan and the Bishop and didn't know they were having a press conference afterward. John Manly and his associates had plenty of time to tell me they were going to hold a press conference, but they didn't. Maybe if I sat next to Manly and had him writing notes to me, I would have known. Frank Mickadeit was inside the courthouse, too. Are you going to accuse him of deliberately avoiding the victims press conference. Conversely, should you be accused of deliberately missing the inside-the-courthouse hallway presser, and therefore being a <i>de facto</i> Manly flack? I thought reporters were supposed to fact-check, not make claims based on uninformed assumptions.

• Even Jesus found some sins so heinous that He could not forgive them. When He was being nailed to the cross, He said, "FATHER, forgive them for they know not what they do." He did not offer forgiveness, He asked His Father to do so. And these men did not KNOW what they were doing. The actions of Msgr. Urell mortally impacted many innocent lives. He understands that or he would not have broken down on the stand. At least that shows he has a conscience. However, like I said, the actions he took while in the position of being able to do something for these victims is something for which he will have to ask God forgiveness. Besides, forgiveness does not mean that the sinner does not suffer the consequences for his crimes. If a murderer is convicted, he has to serve his time. We can forgive him all we want, but that does not lessen his consequences. Even Pope John Paul II forgave his shooter, but he did not ask to have him released from prison. Msgr. Urell has to face the consequences of his actions, no matter how sorry he is, no matter how much he is loved, no matter how forgiving we want to be. He changed peoples' lives forever, and there are consequences for that.

It's not about your egos as a reason for not talking to people that have been raped, molested and hurt as children because your side lost. • I also have no affilation or relationship with the Diocese of Orange, California. I am, however, very concerned about the disgraceful cover ups by bishops in dioceses all across the country. As Lowell and Patty Mills have said in referring to Msgr. John Utrell, "he couldn't allow himself to succumb to dishonesty." For that very reason, he needs to get well and he should be required to finish his testimony as to what the truth is. Why is it that John Hanna forgets to mention that victims of childhood sexual abuse have a right to JUSTICE? Jesus speaks of justice. I do not believe that Bishop Tod Brown acted with any kind of integrity in sending him to Southdown in Canada when he could just as well sent him to St. Lukes, a similar facility, outside of Washington, D.C. The truth WILL come out in the end and Msgr. John needs to tell the truth.
