Tuesday's Headlines

Categories: News Roundups
  • Postal problemos persist: San Juan Capistrano residents have won their war with the U.S. Postal Service, and the planned 9-acre building they protested will rise in Aliso Viejo. But guess what? The folks there don't want it either.
  • Lookin' for cheap labor: Wonder how the OC Reg plans to fill the void after the layoffs? Intern power! That's $10.63 an hour, according to a note sent out by the AAJA.
  • Our favorite Martin: Opponents of Anaheim Union school trustee Harald Martin stomped into the county education department yesterday with 5,000 signatures, calling for him to step down. If 2,300 of those names are verified as registered voters from within the district, Martin could be on his way out.
  • Pricey-assed ax: The LAT's Column One enters one OC guy's garage and has a look at his 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard with a sunburst finish. The guitar was worth $280 back in the day. Now it can fetch as much as $500,000.
  • Tonight in Costa Mesa: Calvary Chapel starts up its "Maranatha! 2 Prophecy Conference,'' which will run each Tuesday night for the next five weeks. Author Mark Hitchcock speaks tonight on his book, Armageddon, Oil and Terror: What the Bible says about the Future.
