• Jubal, you are a funny guy. i gather from something i read, don't recall what, that you live in orange. gues what..me too! judging from your icon you are not opposed to a drink from time to time. i would love nothing better than to buy you that drink. anytime. seriously. the (stupid, unthinking, clueless, ungenuine) serrach

• it's the standard deflection technique that jubal and his ilk have perfected over the years. he falls back on either disproven arguements (the deleleted comments on ocblog were related to his identity and to criticism of his own shilling for paid advertisers (the latter pre-dated the weekly column on the same topic)), or nitpicking semantics. he then resorts to outright name-calling to further distract from the fact the he is our favorite pot in all of orange county. jubal truly fascinates me and it all really started the first time that i 'got into it' with him. he explained to me that his was a "serious blog" and this was why i was not allowed to make certain types of comments (but he can take money from people whose campaigns he promotes). it's fascinating to me because this self-important clownish-ness is at once cute and totally representative of thousands of orange county "republicans" just like him. it's like he's king of the dweebs.

• Jubal: 1) Way to play into their hands 2) Shill: One who poses as a satisfied customer or an enthusiastic gambler to dupe bystanders into participating in a swindle. In other words, a shill is someone who enthusiasically supports something for no good reason (in fact, for bad ones) If you want to argue that "uncritically regurgitating the standard enviro talking points" is not shilling, then you're not making a serious argument. You're nitpicking semantics. What's the difference, I wonder? I suppose you might respond that in my mind there is no swindle involved and therefore, whether or not I'm right, at least I'm not consciously duping people. But the idea you plant in people's heads is the same. You're still trying to imply that my argument is weaker by virtue of similarity with a) a respected environmental lawyer and b) a respected pillar of the local community. And me with a lowly philosophy degree from Scotland. Thanks, Matt!

• Alex: I see you are now uncritically regurgitating the standard enviro talking points. Your post is almost indistinguishable from recent op-eds by that NRDC laywer Joel Reynolds and the op-ed Reynolds ghost-wrote for Joan Irvine Smith.
