• As an advocate for sex abuse survivors, there is no doubt that justice in a court of law is the only tool that will ensure all the dirty secrets and sex crimes committed against children are removed from secret and hidden files. Our children deserve to witness the clean-up of the horrific sex abuse scandals in religious institutions. Lawsuits Bring Public Disclosure Public Disclosure Brings Awareness Awareness Brings Protections of Children Parents have the right to decide whether their children should attend schools and churches that do not enforce the laws relating to mandated reporting of sex abuse crimes and other violations of the law. Does freedom of religion allow for failures to report or assist in the cover-up of crimes committed against children, especially when attorneys, accountants and administrators have full knowledge of the crimes? If I were a Bishop, my first priority would be to evaluate whether the legal and financial advisors hired by me, in the name of the Church, have been negligent or have "misstated" the intent of our country's laws relating to the protections of children and vulnerable adults from sex abuse crimes.
