MTV Chooses Huntington Beach for Next Season of Real World?

Categories: before it gets old
As tipped off by our craft blogger/KROQ listener Steph Calvert: This morning, KROQ's Kevin & Bean entertainment report stated that MTV's 24th (seriously! Twenty-four!) season of the Real World will be set in Huntington Beach.

realworldhbdannyt.jpg
Wat.

Though we're having some issues tracking anything down to confirm this, all we can find online is that MTV will be hosting open casting calls in both Huntington and San Diego on Dec. 5. Apparently, a member of the Real World: Sydney cast will also be on hand to help with interviews--did anyone even watch that season?

In the meantime: Can you imagine MTV cameras invading the already obnoxious enough Main Street? Think you'll see a cast member or two ruining your local Wahoo's, Sugar Shack or Tuna Town some time in the near future? For more info on the casting call, just click here.

My roommate is from HB and he refuses to audition for a cast spot because of his complete and utter hatred to have that show in HB. He is upset that the new cast is going to take all his underground spots into the mainstream light and it will never be the same again. Why would you bring a show to a location that has so many riots and innocent civilian beatings and adding 7 drunk retards into the mix. That is a great plan!! good job MTV

It is filled with skinheads, dimwitted "bros" and their trashy Ho's.

I can'y wait to see if MTV is honest enough to show that pisshole for what it really is - and ugly urban mess and a pit of despair.

Actually – I live 2 blocks from Main and we don’t want Real World coming here because all summer long the 909ers come in and it is douchbag overload. Real World would only amplify that. HB the other 9 mos of the year is a great place to live, surfers, skaters, young families, young professionals, and retirees, all living in harmony. If you think HB is trashy you haven’t been here in 10+ years.

Wes says:

Somehow, we fucked up, Huntington. We were given this land to protect from selling out, going all Nazi (again), or becoming the butt of Orange County's jokes. We fucked up.

We should have known this would happen when Chronic Tacos opened. The 909-ers that started to invade our beaches years ago no longer commute. Maybe rent wasn't high enough to keep the 'Bros out. Maybe there was no way to stop them from moving in, starting families of low short, high socks-wearing wannabe guidos.

The City Council really dropped the ball here. It doesn't surprise me unfortunately. The only thing we can do now is petition Congressman Rohrabacher and Councilwoman Hardy to audition for the show. Now THERE'S something I would watch.

HB local says:

I'm gonna be the dick. Before you bitch about MTV "invading" HB and making it a tourist city, get a fucking clue. Reality check, the city council has been making HB a tourist city for the past 10+ years. Why was Bella Terra built? Why do you thinkThe Strand was recently built? Why has Main Street been slowly filled with restaurants, bars and clothing stores that carry BEACH style clothes? Think about it. Sounds like places tourists like to go. And those big hotels along PCH? I think most citizens of HB live in houses of their own so that means the people staying in those hotels are....tourists. If you really want some shocking news, here it is: HB was started as a tourist city :O

Pass this on to the rest of the "crybitchmoanMTViscomingtoHB" crew: Shut the fuck up and deal with it. You live in a tourist city.

/End of rant.

Downtown is crazy enough, all we need is for those kids go get a suit at the shorebreak and cause more mayhem!! The street itself is not really big enough to handle all the exposure we already have!! Imagine what it could be like in ridiculious times, such as surf week, when we already get an influx of 500,000 tourists!!

And on another note, I love HB. There are douchbags everywhere you go!! Deal with it!! Pick any city in the world and go there, you will find them!! Promise!

Huntington Beach is a really nice city. I have been living here for over 20 years. The only major negative about it is that stupid 909ers come down and make the crime rate go up. Those are the white trash and other ethic groups that bring crap to HB. For anyone that calls Orange County the "O.C." is not from here, that was coined by a dumbass reality show as well. So people unless you live in HB shut your mouth because you are the assholes that trash our city, so stay the hell out if you don't like it here because many of us love to live in Surf City!

the white bear says:

You guys are all missing the real question...how many days into the show taping before HBPD shoots someone from the RW? As for the show ruining HB, it's too late. I spent most of the last decade as a taxi driver working downtown HB (newcomers call it "Main Street.") The problem isn't the 909ers, it's the stuck up trust fund kids trying to be hardcore, I coined the term "Tuppies", for Tattooed Urban Posers, four years ago, for these people. I stopped driving the cab in summer 2008, and there was talk about RW show coming then. Do you guys have any idea what a lame show does for real estate prices? HB city council sought RW to come to HB.

Posted On: Saturday, Dec. 5 2009 @ 7:36PM
The White Bear says:

Actually, the real question is how many HOURS into the taping before the first RW cast member gets their ass kicked at Crabby's? That will happen before before the PD shoots anyone.
I don't live there any more, I got run out of HB for publishing a xerox zine about the alternative history of Huntington Beach. For real. If you think HB sucks, try Kernersville, North Carolina, where I'm now exiled. Anyhow, I've got a blog about my days in HB: myhuntingtonbeach.blogspot.com

Haven't they ruined Orange County enough with the "OC" and "Newport Beach", which were, let's face it, scripted reality. What is MTV trying to prove with these shows? Why are they still calling themselves MTV when the station is clearly full of trashy reality television that isn't remotely entertaining??
So take your crappy show MTV and stick it up your a** with the rest of them.

I've lived in HB for almost 30 years (Surf Theatre and Golden Bear were still here) and lived down on the numbers, so I remember when it was cool downtown and everyone, young and old, could go chill, hang out and have a really great time. Everyone knew everyone back then. It's changed so much in the last 10 years, though. Too touristy, too many kooks, too Newport, too many drunks with no clue. Had to move across Beach and leave the weirdos that invaded our city. Good call on the "Tuppies" there, white bear. We don't need MTV to come down and make things worse than they already are.

Ive lived in Huntington All my life since the day I was born (which isn't that long 19 yrs.) I understand what you guys are saying on the tuppies, 909rs, bros, etc. etc. HB has always been a shithole and it is because of these few examples and the locals including. Locals, you can't say that it isn't your fault because lets be honest its because of our pride that we've ALLOWED HB to stay the way it is, instead of improving it through less commercialism (bars, shops, and restraunts). Don't be afraid, people will not forget about us just because weve stopped building new and exciting places lol. Other then that it is the people (outsiders and locals) that give us the worst image of all. Especially bros which I have a particular dislike for just because I see their lives as waste and they could have been used for more deserving people that could be more productive citizens towards society. LOL anyways Locals take the drunk glasses off and please do something about our beloved town. Anything would help even the smallest petition. Outsiders please keep coming and giving us your money. We hate you but we love your money thats the only reason we can even tolerate you at the moment. Oh and for anyone that says "well why dont yah do something about it". Well... i was born in hb and have lived here most of my life. i love it so much and always say great things about my hometown and where i live. however, i would have to be blind to not notice all the horrible people that seem to come into hb and give it a bad name. i thought the "oc" was the worst things that could happen, but if the real world does comes to hb, then i know i was wrong. there are so many great things about hb that make me want to live her the rest of my life, but if the media keeps bringing in "douchebags" and "skinheads, dimwitted "bros" and their trashy Ho's", then im going to have take my fiance's advice and move away when we get married. i want people to watch movies like "the seedling" and think of the huntington beach culture, not the "real world" reality tv show.

Seriously, where are they gonna go hangout? Sharkees?
Fred's I bet will be their hotspot!! VIP only bitches..to Fred's?Yeah right. So lame. I miss Main's used to be small town vibe.Main St. mostly now consists of peeps standing in long ass lines to just get into small bars..getting so wasted..which commonly turns into hate fights..and dirty guys trying to mac on every chic around. Sounds like its gonna end up just being like it usually is.
Drink till drunk and fight with the locals or f-ck each other.

I understand that locals don't want RW coming to invade your city because I wouldn't want that either...the overcrowding, portraying your city and its ppl in a negative way, etc. But I don't understand the attitude that if it wasn't for the 909ers everything in HB would be wonderful. The people saying that sound like Nazi's blaming all of their problems on others.

I've lived in HB for almost 20 years and as much as I don't want The Real World coming here it honestly wouldn't affect me that much because downtown has been flooded with douchebags, bros, and ptots for years which is why i almost NEVER go down there. so just avoid the downtown area and toke it up with some homies, thats where the real funs at, not fuckin downtown.

It's not that big of a deal.

Most people who've grown up in Huntington avoid Main street at all costs. The place is crawling with Real World hopefulls. It seems natural.

I'd prefer Real World: Santa Ana, Garden Grove or Little Saigon, people forget that these place are part of "The O.C." Let's see the kids swarms a Pho 99 on a Friday night. Or Alerto's drive thru.

Even Real World: Sunset Beach would be more interesting a city with no schools and countless tattoo and message parlors and bars now that sounds like a show.

I don't understand how this is upsetting. It hasn't been the same place we grew up, the same place were my dad grew up for a while now and it never will be. Are people claiming that there are different levels of selling out?

It would suck to be an actual local, like living on one of the numbered streets local. I get that. If this goes through you guys are screwed, for little bit. But it'll blow over, no one with an expendable income watches. Just middle kids and everyone that did make it, again and will try again next season.

Nobody cares, except for this blog apparently.

Why anyone would want to come to Huntington beach i have no idea. It's got to be one of the ugliest beaches ( I know i lived there for 8 years and just recently moved). And all Mtv will do is add to the Scumingtons/Scuzzingtons out there. IT will just show the true colors of what HB really is. Def not a family vacation spot...
