Reggae lovers looking for a weekly fix can convene at The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa on Tuesday nights, where the stage bustles with a rotating lineup of musicians known as the SoCal Reggae All Stars. Comprised of members from Steel Pulse, Common Sense, and Big Mountain, the super group views the weekly gig as a way to keep Southern California's reggae community engaged and growing.

Lead guitarist and producer David "Cirious" Elecciri Jr. anchors the group, and considering he's also a member of reggae staple act Steel Pulse, he's more than qualified. With an album featuring Baruch Hind and members of No Doubt pegged for release in early summer, the SoCal Reggae All Stars are poised to keep Orange County's reggae reputation flourishing. We sat down with Elecciri who shared his thoughts on the band, the new album, and the state of Southern California's reggae scene.

To the dismay of local punks and warehouse showgoers in OC, DIY art space and music venue Unit B skatepark announced that it has closed its doors and cancelled all future events. Great, one more valued all-ages venue down the drain. At least for now.

Mark Waters, who runs the venue and books gigs, posted the news last Thursday on Unit B's Facebook page, though he declines to go into too much detail about the reason for the closure.

"The bottom line is that the property owner somehow saw the videos of the shows we were doing there and just got real nervous," Waters says. "They just saw it as violence, this goes back to 1980 in Los Angles, where punk rock violence is misunderstood by the masses."

The new venue for Mars Hill Church Orange County.
On the same stage where his former bands have rocked out for wild crowds, pastor Nick Bogardus will preach the Gospel of Jesus for a different congregation.

Mars Hill Church Orange County, which Bogardus leads, has a new home at The Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, reports The Christian Post. Its first service is this Sunday at 10 a.m.
Bogardus, who once oversaw the careers of bands and artists like Thrice, Cold War Kids and Matt Costa, started the OC plant of the Washington-based megachurch in March, and has since seen it grown to about 200 members. The church's worship leader is Thrice's frontman (and Weekly coverboy) Dustin Kensrue.
