Wouldn't it be nice...if people didn't start bullshit rumors

Fat, sick and overwhelmed by the voices in his head, Brian Wilson was fired from the Beach Boys on November 25,^, 1982 with a formal note from Brother Records, Inc. stating, "...Your services as an employee...are hereby terminated effective immediately," as outlined in Wilson's 1992 autobiography, Wouldn't It Be Nice. The original Beach Boys held a vote on the future of the band, in fear of Wilson's overall health, and Mike Love delivered the letter at a band meeting by saying, "You're fired."

Fast forward to 2012.

Amid the band's biggest tour in years featuring on-again-off-again touring member, Brian Wilson, U.K.'s Telegraph has set the catalyst to a massive media frenzy with the headline "Beach Boys founders sacked in middle of reunion tour." Following the initial article, various media outlets picked up the story with headlines like, "Brian Wilson fired from the Beach Boys" and "The Mike Love master class in how to sack the Beach Boys."

Years of lawsuits over money and credits between cousins Mike Love and Wilson are supposedly in the past. Yet, multiple media outlets are claiming that Love has fired all the original members.  It's simply not true.

Imagine our surprise after seeing the Growlers' Saturday night performance at FYF, when singer Brooks Nielsen announced that the Abigails' singer Warren Thomas had died, and yesterday we get a call from a guy claiming to be Warren Thomas. Holy shit! Was this a g-g-g-g-g-host in our midst?!

There were a couple of interesting changes to Coachella's set times for Weekend 2. (Compare Weekend 1's schedule here.) First, set times for outdoor stage headliners Miike Snow (Saturday) and Florence and the Machine (Sunday) had no end point marked. More noticeably, however, was the change in the Sahara tent's set times on Sunday. All the sets were squished together and started 15 minutes earlier than Weekend 1's lineup. Avicii starts his set 20 minutes earlier than his original 10:10 p.m. start time. Thus, Porter Robinson, Dada Life, Nero and Calvin Harris' set times moved up 20 minutes earlier as well.

UPDATE, Feb. 9, 2012, 1:30 p.m.:  Mary Platt, Director of Communications and Media Relations at Chapman University, says the rumor that Miley Cyrus is going to be studying at Chapman is just a rumor--and it's not true. 

"Miley Cyrus is not coming here, she's never applied and it's an Internet hoax. It happened last year and the year before that--and it was the same lovely day for our staff trying to deny it all day," Platt said.​

Original Post,  Feb. 9, 2012, 12:59 p.m.: Is Miley Cyrus going to Chapman University this year? The Dirty Army gossip blog is saying so, going by the anonymous letter from someone who works at Chapman's admission office. 

hat person said, "So the one and only Miley Cyrus will be attending our great school, I checked the birthdays and they matched. So unless there is another Miley Cyrus running around SoCal with the exact same name and birthday I'm positive I will be seeing her on campus."

As expected, there was all kinds of conjecture in the comments section, from snarky to Chapman loyalists fiercely defending the liberal arts school of choice.

We're expecting the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival to announce its 2012 lineup this week; on Friday, organizers tweeted a pic that says "Next Week," so we're checking the feeds more compulsively than usual.

​The official Facebook account for the much anticipated fest doesn't update too often, but when it does, one should pay attention.

A little over a half-hour ago, a YouTube video for Azealia Banks' oral sex anthem "212" was posted--along with zero comments, sure, but still an ominous clue indeed.

​Is Frances Bean Cobain engaged to local band The Rambles' Isaiah Silva? According to various sources around town--and Facebook--yes. Sources say that the two, who have been dating for more than a year, changed their relationship status on the social networking site to engaged a few weeks ago. Although they just as quickly changed it back, the couple, who use fake names on Facebook (Frances Rachel Leigh Cook for her, Isaiah David Berkowitz-Cusack for him), allude to the engagement in various posts, such as the screenshot above, which shows Cobain saying, "Getting to spend the rest of my life loving my best friend makes me the luckiest woman in the world."

It's been two years since rapper/actor Ice Cube first announced plans to produce a film recounting his days as a member of gangsta rap group NWA. There's finally some news about the oft-delayed film. Director John Singleton (of Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious and the upcoming Taylor Lautner-starring Abduction) may be the man to helm the project, according to The Playlist.More »

After all, only two months ago Adele told Rolling Stone, "My life is full of drama and I won't have time to worry about something as petty as what I look like," she tells the magazine. "I don't like going to the gym. I like eating fine foods and drinking nice wine. Even if I had a really good figure, I don't think I'd get my tits and ass out for no one."

But the rumor that's been going around says that it wasn't laryngitis that forced Adele to cancel her recent North American tour--it was a label executive who told her to lose weight.
