Monday night's a good night for
drinking 'cuz the squares are stuck at home watching Seinfeld reruns. That's
why I've made Avalon in Costa Mesa
(originally owned by the late Mike Conley) my new hangout spot. Well, that, and the fact that I know the bartender.
Anyway,
I've been pleasantly surprised with the DJ team of Stretch and Nao
(pronounced "now"). They play lots of obscure rock 'n' roll, new wave and
garage mixed with the occasional punk record here and there.
Stretch
is a nice guy (and tall, hence the name) who never complains when, after a few sangrias, I inevitably
request, "any OC punk that isn't Social Distortion." Minutes later the
Adolescents are filling the bar.
And
if that's not enough, Avalon gives away free yes, I said FREE Pabst Blue
Ribbon on Mondays from 10-11. Now you have no excuse not to go.
P.S.,
The free PBRs don't mean you still don't have to buy me drinks for telling you
about this place.
