I mean, we just got over the pressure of the holidays and now we're expected to come up with more gifts to show our love and appreciation. And do we ever get it right? Of course not. We're guys and we suck.

But we know if we play our cards right, tonight's almost a slam dunk in the bedroom. With this on our minds, we're acting all soft and cute with our roses, cards, teddy bears and chocolates, but what we're really thinking about is getting naked with you. (To be fair, we're also thinking about how to get you naked on the other 355 days of the year, but tonight, the odds of that happening are much higher and we like when the odds are in our favor.)

Are you ready for some football? Hank Williams, Jr. really wants to know.

The 2011 NFL regular season kicks off Thursday night, when the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers host the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field. On Saturday, while you're sleeping in or making a run to Trader Joe's for vegan pizza, there'll be more important things going on in the world. Yeah, it's Kim Kardashian's wedding! We know you could probably care less, but these multimillion-dollar Hollywood weddings only happen once every...month?

Since this wedding will be televised in a two-day E! event, we're sure some big musical heavyweights will be performing (or at least some well-known DJ will be mounted on a huge platform) at the $29-million estate in Montecito which is where the wedding is being held. ​Dennis Owens has been doing funk/soul club Good Foot at Que Sera in Long Beach for almost twelve years now and I think I was lucky enough to peek inside maybe by year two. The DJs who've climbed in and out of that back booth have been some of Southern California's best, and I was pretty honored when Dennis had me do an early set (with an ace squad of Foot alumni) at the tenth anniversary in the fall of 2008.

Now I've got my own anything-goes night called BIG FREAK on Mondays in Eagle Rock (with Crystal Antlers guest DJ-ing this next pre-SXSW installment) and so when Dennis invited me back for another Good Foot appearance, I decided to make a mix of records that could fit either night and call it--of course--BIG FOOT.

Some of these songs (like thee Midniters) I play almost every chance I get and some are ones I had to fish out from the back of the closet, like Gino Washington and King Coleman. And of course I saved a bunch for Friday, like Michael and the Mesengers, Joe Simon and N.F. Porter's "Don't Make Me Color My Black Face Blue," where our fearless singer clearly and powerfully declares that he's "sick of this shit!"

​My coworker over at our Navel Gazing blog recently posted "OC Impacts Some of Country's Worst Commutes." The shit gets real thick and nasty on the Hollywood Freeway in Los Angeles, where speeds average 14 mph during the most congested times. But sitting in the CA-55 on my way home from Costa Mesa to Newport Beach can be a crawl, too. After living in Southern California for the past two months, traffic definitely ranks as the No. 1 drawback. Yeah, I'd heard about it dragging ass but never imagined how much time I would be spending in my car on any given day. Here are some songs I downloaded for the drive I'm about to make home.

​La Habra freak show Nadya "Octomom" Suleman closed out 2009 as the nation's least desirable neighbor. Now, that's impressive. I spent the past decade blasting music and screaming to friends--we thought we were talking--at all hours of the night and what did I get? Nothing. No award. No mention of my obnoxiousness in any news outlets--except the ones I wrote for. Just the occasional visit from the friendly Florida policeman reminding my cohorts and I that the old ladies down the street were trying to sleep and, please, keep it the fuck down. Octomom, here's to you, the least talented person in the history of humankind to routinely make headlines.
