On Sale Saturday: Slayer and Megadeth

god_listens_to_slayer.jpg

Get out those heavy coats cuz it'll definitely be reigning blood when Slayer, Megadeth and Testament hit the Long Beach Arena Jan. 22 as part of the American Carnage Tour.

In my 30 years on this planet, I've been to my fair share of concerts, but never have I seen anything like what I saw the one Slayer show I attended. It was about four years ago -- ironically, at the Long Beach Arena -- and the group had an upside cross made of guitar amps hanging from each side of the stage. It was the most metal thing I've ever seen and totally worth the price of admission. For those planning on attending in January, I hope they do this again because it was pretty fucking awesome.

Oh yeah, tickets go on sale tomorrow.

Top 5 Questions for Adam Richman

Adam Richman, the lovable foodie from the Travel Channel's Man V. Food, is coming to the House of Blues Dec. 15. If you don't know Richman, your first question probably is, "So?" But if you know all about how the Brooklyn native travels the country to enter eateries that serve ridiculous portions in hopes of chowing them in one sitting, you might have a few more when the host/actor gets into his Q&A section of the show. I don't plan on attending, but if you do, here are a few freebies to get him riled up.

1. Have you no shame?
2. Were you the kid in school who ate boogers?
3.What kind of health insurance plan does the Travel Channel provide?
4. Could you kick Anthony Bourdain's ass?
5. Most people on tv get laid without a problem, but does the fact that you stuff your fat face actually supercede the ease factor when you explain to females just what kind of show you're on?

Tickets go on sale Saturday.

On-Sale Saturday: Morrissey, Dokken, More

Thumbnail image for morrissey.jpg

OK, we can stop complaining about the Morrissey show at the Fox Theater in Pomona on December 7 not going on sale yet.

On-Sale Saturday: Kem, 'Comedians of Chelsea Lately,' More

kem.jpg

Neo-soul singer Kem hasn't had an album since 2005's colorfully named Album II. Is a little thing like that going to stop him from coming to the Grove of Anaheim on November 21? Of course not. Why, in fact, tickets are going on sale at noon this Saturday, October 10 (tomorrow, if you will), for $50-$60. More shows going on sale tomorrow after the jump.

On-Sale Saturday: The Vandals, Third Eye Blind, More

Orange County music might not have many annual traditions, but this is one: every holiday season, OC punk legends the Vandals play their "Christmas Formal" at the House of Blues in Anaheim; playing wacky Christmas tunes (including modern classic "Christmas Time for My Penis") from their 1996 record Oi to the World!. This year it takes place Saturday, December 19, and tickets are on sale this Saturday at 10 a.m. for $16.50-$18.

Couple more shows going on sale tomorrow worth nothing--including a once-beloved '90s band and one that's total Hot Topic-core. Let's do this thing.

Incoming: Matt Costa at Detroit, Morrissey at the Fox Pomona

mattcosta.jpg

It may be late Friday afternoon, but there's still some stuff to talk about. Like a couple of big new shows coming our way.

On-Sale Saturday: Saosin, Los Lobos, More

saosin.jpg

Newport Beach's Saosin just released their their second album, In Search of Solid Ground, this past Tuesday. Rather than rest on their hard-rockin' laurels, they're preparing a headlining show at the House of Blues in Anaheim: well, on December 20. So lots of preparation. Tickets are on sale this Saturday at 10 a.m., $16.50-$19.

More shows on sale tomorrow (and a bunch of rad Glass House shows on sale today) after the jump!

On-Sale Saturday: Virtually Nothing! But New Shows From Peaches, Glassjaw

PeachesConcert.jpg
Yeah. Due to the three-day weekend and all that, there are pretty much no shows going on sale tomorrow. There's the "BET's 106 & Park Tour" with Trey Songz and Mario at the House of Blues in Anaheim (on sale 10 a.m. tomorrow, $35-$37.50). And that's...it.

There are a couple more new shows worth mentioning, even if they don't go on sale tomorrow (that's OK, right?). Avant garde, once-beareded, electro artist Peaches (pictured) will be at the Glass House in Pomona on October 26. That's on sale now and $15, which seems like kind of a steal. Glassjaw is back touring and headed to the same downtown P-town venue on November 12. That's $25, and on sale this Wednesday (September 9! already!) at noon.

On-Sale Saturday: All Time Low, Paramore, More

alltimelow.jpg

All Time Low are currently experiencing an all time high (I'm sorry, really) amount of exposure through their new album, Nothing Personal--which defied expectations by debuting #4 on Billboard and got them an appearance on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Ride the wave of their success on November 8 at the House of Blues in Anaheim, where they'll be playing alongside We the Kings, Hey Monday and the Friday Night Boys. Tickets are on sale 10 a.m. Saturday, August 29 (tomorrow!) for $22.50-$25.

A few more shows worth knowing about--including Paramore at the Fox Theater!--after the jump!

On-Sale Saturday: The Bravery, Gogol Bordello, More

thebravery.jpg

The Bravery proved a lot of people wrong when "Believe" hit big in 2007--honestly, who didn't think that they would be one-hit wonders after "An Honest Mistake," merely riding the nouveau-new wave...wave? It looks like they'll be around for a bit, with a third album in the works, and a tour--one that stops at the House of Blues in Anaheim on November 1. Tickets are on sale this Saturday, August 22, at 10 a.m.; prices range from $15.03 for a four-pack to $50.

More shows with tickets going on sale tomorrow after the jump.

On-Sale Saturday: The Germs, Randy Travis, More

thegerms.jpg

This is a cool one: the newly reunited Germs, featuring actor (and UC Irvine alum) Shane West, is coming to the House of Blues, Anaheim on September 6. The Germs disbanded back in 1980 after the suicide of lead singer Darby Crash (Pat Smear went on to play guitar with Foo Fighters and on Nirvana's Unplugged in New York album), but reformed recently wish West, who played Crash in 2007 biopic What We Do Is Secret. On sale at 10 a.m. tomorrow (August 8), $17.50 in advance; $20 day of show.

And there's more on sale at the HOB tomorrow! Whoo.

On Sale Saturday: Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony

Bone_Thugs.jpg

Ah snap. All five original members of Cleveland's favorite rapping singers Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony are playing Sept. 19 at the Grove of Anaheim.

Bone Thugs has been a three piece for a looong time because Flesh-n-Bone went to prison for nearly a decade for assault with a deadly weapon and parole violation while Bizzy Bone left the group for being too much of a thug and not enough of a bone (or something like that. Honestly, I don't really know. I just made that up so please don't sue me).

Tickets on sale Saturday. Until then, I'll see you at tha Crossroads.

On Sale Saturday: The Killers at UCI's Bren Events Center

killers2.jpg
Las Vegas' own the Killers are performing Sept. 15 at the not-used-very-often UCI Bren Events Center. I saw Al Gore speak there about a decade ago, but this was way before he invented global warming.

Anyway, tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. and cost $47.50.

Wait, what? $47.50? Am I crazy or is that a whole lot of money to see the Killers? I know they're popular and all, but is no one in their camp aware of this little thing called a recession?

On-Sale Saturday: Better Than Ezra, G. Love & Special Sauce, More

betterthanezra.jpg

Some people might hear that Better Than Ezra are coming (Sept. 27 at the House of Blues, Anaheim), and say, "who cares? They haven't had a hit since the mid-'90s." Well, actually, lots of people care. Like "*~* CoUrTnEy *~*" on the band's MySpace, who commented on the above picture with, "You guys are amazing!!! I've been a fan for 10 years now!!! I even sing a little "Good" kareoke when the mood is right!! LOL It's nice to see a band where all of it's members are HOT" See, she cares.

Plenty more stuff coming our way after the jump.

On Sale Saturday: Motorhead

motorhead-2008.jpg

You know how doctors advise you not to wear two condoms at the same time? Well, that logic applies to earplugs at Motorhead shows. Yes, they are loud, but putting in two in each ear isn't going to stop the rock.

Don't believe me? Catch 'em with the Chelsea Girls Oct. 7 at the House of Blues. Tickets on sale Saturday at 10 a.m.

Is It Too Early for Halloween News?

Thumbnail image for horrorpops.jpg

The answer is no. Our nation's best holiday that isn't really a holiday but should be is fun for all ages. Kids get to wear costumes and stuff their faces with free candy and adults get to wear costumes and stuff their bellies with copious amounts of booze. Win-win!

Ah, but this Halloween will be a somber one thanks to the recent passing of Cramps lead singer Lux Interior. The psychobilly godfathers performed throughout October for as long as I can remember, but unless Lux pulls his greatest move yet, the odds on that happening this year are pretty slim.

I know it's not the Cramps, but the Horrorpops and the Nekromantix are teaming for a show that evening at the Fox Theater in Pomona. Tickets are on sale Saturday, so get 'em now. I don't know about you, but spontaneity sucks. I mean, who doesn't love having their lives planned out four months in advance?

On-Sale Friday: Smile Empty Soul, Super Diamond, More

smileemptysoul.jpg
Tyler Clinton

This Saturday is July 4, which is Independence Day, natch, the celebration of the birth of this great and good nation of ours. It's also a holiday, which is why tickets for these House of Blues Anaheim shows are going on sale on Friday, July 3 (tomorrow!) this week. All on sale at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Santa Clarita post-grungers Smile Empty Soul (pictured, remember "Bottom of a Bottle"? maybe?) play July 21, tickets are $10-$12.50. Neil Diamond tribute band (oh boy) Super Diamond will be at the HOB on Aug. 8, that's $20-$22.50. Latin pop star Yahir? He'll be rockin' Downtown Disney en Espanol on Sept. 2; $22.50-$25.

On-Sale Saturday: Um, Not a Lot, Really.

Yeah.

We've got the Creed show at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine Ryan Ritchie told you about earlier in the week, and Sunny Day Real Estate at the House of Blues in Anaheim on Oct. 10, which the always-helpful RR also told you about earlier in the week. Children of Bodom at the Glass House, too.

Anything new? Well, there's the Jakes headling a local show--the New Limb are also on the bill--at the House of Blues in Anaheim on July 24. $10, that goes on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. Also long-running New Orleans heavy metal band Down will be at the HOB on August 18, that's $28.50-$30.

Over at the Grove of Anaheim, the "Johnny Vato's Tribute Halloween Concert featuring the Music of Oingo Boingo Performed by Former Members of Oingo Boingo" (yes, that's the whole name) will be on Oct. 29, that goes on sale noon tomorrow for...well, I can't find a price. But is any amount too high for the Music of Oingo Boingo Performed by Former Members of Oingo Boingo? I say no.

With Arms Wide Open (Again)

A recently reunited Creed is performing Sept. 30 at Irvine's Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Insert your own joke here. The show was actually announced back in April, but now it's totally official and all that.

Staind opens. Tickets go on sale Saturday, June 27, at 10 a.m. through Live Nation.

Incoming: Sunny Day Real Estate

If you call yourself emo and don't know Sunny Day Real Estate, then it's time to learn your history. The foursome -- singer/guitarist Jeremy Enigk, guitarist Dan Hoerner, bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith -- helped create the template for dudes with loud guitars to play music that shunned anger and welcomed sadness.

The orginial quartet broke up in 1998, but Enigk, Hoerner and Goldsmith reunited a few times with a couple of different bassists once Mendel joined this little group called the Foo Fighters (Goldsmith was also in Foos in the early days).

But the show at the House of Blues on Oct. 10 is the og foursome and is part of a month-long national tour the emo pioneers are embarking on beginning Sept. 17 in Vancouver. Rumor has it the band will focus on material from the Mendel era, which includes the unfuckwithable Diary and the untitled follow-up that kids who used to hang out at Koo's or the Huntington Beach Library used to call The Pink Album or LP2.

Both discs are being re-issued by Sub Pop two days before the tour begins. Tickets for the October show go on sale Saturday.

On-Sale Saturday: Pete Yorn, Frank Sinatra Jr., More

peteyorn.jpg

If you enjoy exchanging legal tender for concert tickets, consider this another successful weekend. We've got Pete Yorn, Frank Sinatra Jr. and some others going on sale tomorrow. Get to clicking!

On-Sale Now or Soon-Ish: Azure Ray, Yes and Asia, More

azureray.jpg

Saddle Creek mid-2000s stars Azure Ray are back! Again! After breaking up in 2004 and playing a one-off in LA late last November, they're back for good-ish, with a new album and a handful of shows planned, including this July 18 at the Glass House. Tickets for that go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, and are $15. Good news for fans of dreamy pop (who isn't?), their 2003 Hold on Love was some lovely, spacey goodness.

And oh, there's more...

Get out your earplugs...

...because AC/DC's coming to town. Yes, Australia's favorite school-boy dressing rock band is hitting the Honda Center Sept. 8. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m.

Because I'd lived in SoCal my entire life, I've had the opportunity to see just about any band I ever wanted to see. This has equated into a LOT of shows. But for some reason, I've never seen AC/DC. I'd like to, just haven't gotten around to it. I know, I know...I should. I really really should.

On-Sale Saturday: Benefit Show with Social Distortion!

mike-ness.jpg

Orange County punk/rockabilly legends Social Distortion are playing their first show in the area in some time (not counting Mike Ness solo shows; there's been plenty of those) on May 18 at the House of Blues in Anaheim. It's the "Rock to Recovery" event, benefiting "Jay Thomas and his battle with spinal cord injury." Also on the bill: the Vandals, the Black Tibetans and Japanese Motors. $40, on sale tomorrow (April 18) at 10 a.m.

Speaking of Mike Ness, as we sort of were, he cameo'd last night at the Bruce Springsteen show at the LA Sports Arena, former OC Weekly music editor Rich Kane tells us, playing a cover with Bruce and the E Streets of Social D number "Bad Luck" and pairing on vocals with the Boss for "The Rising." That sounds awesome. I was not there. Sadface.

NKOTB!!!!!!!!!!!

The recently reunited New Kids on the Block are coming to Irvine. The question is, are you ready?

The group plays July 10 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and tickets go on sale Saturday, which means interested parties should probably start lining up asap.

Now, I could go on and take all sorts of cheap shots at NKOTB. But I won't. I'd like to think I'm above that, even though I'm sure I could come up with a good one.

But I sure as hell would like to know who in 2009 is going to this and how in the fuck the New Kids on the Block are popular enough to headline a venue the size of the VWA.

ALL? Yes ALL!

Tickets go on sale Saturday for a show that I've been waiting for for a long, long time.

ALL, with second singer Scott Reynolds, is playing with OC favs Big Drill Car July 18 at the House of Blues.

For the uneducated, ALL was formed from the ashes of the Descendents. They've been through three singers and haven't played locally with Reynolds in a very long time. So long I can't even give a rough estimate. Let's say it's been nearly 15 years and leave it at that.

Like many stupid kids, I hated ALL when I first heard them. They weren't the Descendents, and the Descendents were my favorite band; hence, ALL sucked. But along with gray hair, getting older also brought me wisdom. I bought the greatest hits type thingy they released in 1999 and since then I've favored ALL to the Descendents. If the teenage version of me read that, the old me would definitely be sporting a black eye right now.

It's too bad more people don't know about ALL. But that's kind of their fault. The line between the two bands has never been clearly defined. ALL takes its name from the final Ds record (final until they reunited in 1996 and 2004.) The band has always played Descendents songs live, and while those are great tunes, ALL has plenty of its own material to cover. After seeing the Ds about 10 times, hearing ALL play "I'm Not a Loser" really lost its appeal when I considered tunes such as "Carnage," "Fool" or "Dot" were left out.

Let's hope they stick with the ALL tunes for these shows because it's about damn time the spotlight shines of them for a while.

On-Sale Saturday: Live, Keane, More

live.jpg

Bet you had pretty much forgotten all about Live, didn't you? Well. They didn't forget about you. Their love is. Like water. They're coming to town, and tickets are on sale tomorrow. And so is other stuff!

On-Sale Saturday: Gavin Rossdale, Doves, More

gavin.jpg

OMG, someone tell 11-year-old Albert that Gavin Rossdale is coming to town. He was rather fond of the Sixteen Stone album. He's not afraid to admit it, despite how lame/girly that might make him sound. In my defense, I was a pretty lame and girly 11 year old.

Just a few shows going on sale tomorrow, but some good ones. Let's take a look! Whee!

On-Sale Saturday: Estelle, Travis, More

estelle.jpg

We all know Estelle would "love to see LA." But apparently, she's also interested in seeing Orange County--who could blame the gal. I mean, the Lucky Strike at the Block alone! Details for this and more shows after the jump.
