It Came to Him in a Dream

All right, people. There will be absolutely no shit-talking in this blog. No matter how tempting. I just can’t do it.

Joe Tucky, an Orange County resident, has written a country song called “A Salute” dedicated to our soldiers, both active and veteran.

The inspiration?

It came to him in a dream.

“I woke up at 3 in the morning with the complete song in my head,” said Tucky. “I’m not a songwriter, but the entire song and lyrics came to me in a dream.”

Tucky claims his friends and family begged him to produce the song, after hearing the deeply moving lyrics, which have allegedly brought many people to tears (in a good way, I presume).

Lyrics like “I am a country singer, this is a country song. If you don’t want to listen, why don’t you move along.”

No, no, there are better ones.

“So when you see an American soldier, salute him and let him pass by. Remember that American soldier, for you he is willing to die.”

(You know, when my first-grade class sang “Proud to Be an American,” it made my mom cry. It just so happens that a song doesn’t have to be a masterpiece to inspire patriotism.)

Tucky recorded the song with the help of country singer Sam Morrison. Neither man has actually served in the military, but both want to “express respect and gratitude for our country’s armed servicemen and -women.”

Morrison and Tucky want as many soldiers and veterans as possible to hear their song.

Tucky wants you all to buy his CD (for just less than 6 bucks, from his independently owned production company) and either give it to a soldier or veteran you know — or don’t know (not important) — as a sign of respect for their service and sacrifice.

You know what would be an even greater sign of respect?

If Tucky donated all his proceeds to a charity like Soldiers Angels or Freedom Is Not Free.

Erin, in response to your suggestion that I donate all proceeds to a Patriotic organization- I do donate hundreds of the Cd's to a non-profit- it is an group called "Support Our Troops" out of a Calvary Chapel Church in Seal Beach, Ca. It is run by Ms. Laurie Fulton. I also send the CD entirely free of charge to some widows of slain soldiers when I see articles in the paper, and other veterans. I also donate time to that group when they have events honoring Soldiers and Veterans, the last being Veterans day at the Joint Forces Base at Los Alamitos. The group has raised hundreds of extra dollars for their cause because we give the Cds away to the public when they make a donation to the Group. The group sends packages and Phone Cards to the troops with funds raised.
I am just a regular guy trying to do his part. I give away one cd for every one sold. The Cd can be purchased as a 99cent download on i-tunes or the physical CD can be purchased at my web site for under $4.00. There are no big profits- I am very proud that the CD thanks the troops for their service. Joe Tucky

I think it is complete wrong what you have posted about Joe Tucky's article. He seems like a really nice man with nothing but good intentions. I have visited the website and the MySpace page to learn more and it appears that Joe has forked out a lot of his own personal hard earned money to get his message across, paid a singer and a producer to get the song complete and now your asking him to donate ALL if his CD's??? Like Joe said, he does donate CD's to "Support Our Troops," he sends free CD's to poor widows who lost their loved ones, and he also has other payment options on his website. Basically, from what I see... what you are paying for is the production, the graphic design, and the cosmetics of the CD design, the actual song comes with it! On his production website he does have the option to purchase the song via iTunes for $.99 cents.

I just think that your sarcasm is wrong and the way you dealt with the article is wrong. You seemed to be putting him down and his message. This is a supposed to be a positive thing to show RESPECT! I know you probably wont or don't care but, I think you owe Mr. Tucky an apology for the way you worded your article! Sarcasm can come across as jealously sometimes!?! Think about it. How many people do you know that go that far out of their way and spend their hard earned money to produce a song to get a wonderful message across???
