what happened to helping those in orange county break out?

we dont need to give credit to those that already get all around the world.

Honestly OC Weekly... there is enough bands in this area that are TEN TIMES better than the ones i listed who no one is ever heard of.

OC Music Awards Team says:

OC Music Awards is dedicated to creating awareness and opportunities for local musicians through recognition of talent. This is a work in progress and we hope that as the Academy grows and we all become more aware of artists from all over the County this will be reflected in future nominations.

When preparing for 2009 we looked very closely at our two neighboring local music awards the SD Music Awards and the LA Music Awards, both going for 18 years. We attended each one and we really feel the San Diego Music Awards has something special going on. The SDMA’s employ an academy-based nomination process, have no restriction on relative success for their nominees and have great community participation from artists, venues, media and fans.

We could not have had two better examples to study and based on the very positive community involvement in San Diego we made some needed adjustment to the OC Music Awards. We transitioned from a submission-based to an academy-based process and put together an academy. We updated the online presence, created a mainly free showcase series and put a full page ad listing all the nominees in the March issue of Music connection. The March issue will go into every single bag at SxSw creating awareness and hopefully opportunities for our local musicians at the biggest music industry festival/conference in the country.

This is the 1st year of the OC Music Awards with a new format and production team and we are working hard to make to make each year better than the last.

Sincerely,
OC Music Awards Team

Bobbo says:

There will always be controversy over who is left on or off a nominee list like this. It's easy to sit back and complain, much harder to go out and do something about it.

I am honored to be part of it.
