Once you're out of elementary school--or don't live where it snows, I think it's pretty much a given most folks don't really celebrate Groundhog Day. And with the mention of the holiday, most minds turn to the Bill Murray movie. Etsy artisans to the rescue! The noble groundhog is the main attraction in lots of arts and crafts on the website--let's take a look at a few examples!

I am totally in love with this print that likens morning hair to waking up with a groundhog on your head!

After the jump, more groundhogs promise to steal your heart on their holiday.

Valentine's Day is coming, and February is a great time to learn a new crafty trick so you can make something special for your certain someone (or yourself!). Another great idea--sign you and your Valentine up for a class to take together! Even if you don't celebrate the holiday, southern California's got a slew of fun classes to fill up your February.

Gettin' Made: On the Craft Supplies Horizon

Once the CHA Craft Supershow has rolled up it's carpet and shuttered it's windows, it's the CHA trade show's turn to have a little fun. Not open to the general public, the trade show side of this crafty extravaganza is a marketplace where your big box stores like Michaels and Jo-Ann Fabrics, along with smaller mom-and-pop operations, can check out what's the latest and greatest craft supplies out there and place orders to carry the items in their stores.

One of the sharp-dressed mannequins at the Plaid booth - each mannequin showcased a different side of the ultra-diverse craft supply company.

We've got a recap of lots of the great new things we saw over here on Flickr. Big themes we noticed? Papercrafting isn't going anywhere - lots of new personal cutting devices are out there to help you in your scrapbooking adventures, along with crafty apps for the iPhone and digital scrapbooking software. (Stay tuned in the near future, we'll be reviewing Serif's Digital Scrapbook Artist 2!)

So check out the pictures, tell us what you think! Comment here and you'll automatically be entered to win the prize pack mentioned in yesterday's Gettin' Made post. (Same rules apply, and contest ends at midnight tonight folks!)

Gettin' Made: CHA Craft Supershow Revisited

Ohhhhh, Craft Supershow. You came and gave us an overload of make and takes and craft celebrity sightings, and then you left without even saying goodbye.

Okay, maybe you did say goodbye. But I'm sure you also left a large portion of the southern California crafty community tired, happy and lugging home a lot more craft supplies than they could have possibly anticipated.

I met Costa Mesa artist Aileen Holmes recently, and as we chatted she mentioned she had just started listing things in her Etsy shop, Tangy Fruit Girl. Lo and behold, her stuff is AWESOME! I had to share, so let's take a look:

I saw a great paper doll drawing on Aileen's website, and was so happy to see that theme carried over onto one of her shirts! Even cooler is that the flowers in the design are embroidery, so they pop out from the design.

After the jump, some more great pieces by a talented illustrator.

If you're looking for plans for Saturday night, there's two art shows going on in Long Beach you should definitely check out! Stephanie Han Windham and Dao Nguyen will be exhibiting pieces at shows close enough together to make it completely convenient to visit both and tell your friends on Monday that you spent an evening looking at art while they sat on the couch watching old M*A*S*H reruns on cable.

Not that I've got anything against M*A*S*H. But you should probably get out of the house this weekend. After the jump, get all the details on these two art shows.
