Suburban Legends at the House of Blues Anaheim

​Suburban Legends is looking for an opening act for their CD release show for their upcoming album Day Job (out April 3), but you can't do anything as mundane as audition for it like normal human beings. You're going to have to make a "creative video" and send it to SLCowboyContest@gmail.com by March 18. The contest is open to "all performance groups, bands, comedy troops, avant garde live art performers, dancers, geriatric cheer groups--whatever!"

The hard-partying ska band is partnering up with Cowboy Coffee for the contest; they're putting up the videos they like on their Facebook page on March 19, and the video that gets the most likes will be up for a chance to play at the release event. The winner will be announced on April 2.

​Sweet Relief, the organization that helps local career musicians facing financial hardship due to illness and disability, is hosting a charity festival ticket auction for the sold-out Coachella Music and Arts Festival 2012. Coachella, as everyone knows, will be held over two weekends in April--and the fest sold out within hours of going on sale.

Kacie Yoshida, Sweet Relief's representative, says "As of now, we are the only entity that has approval from Goldenvoice to auction these passes off"--and the auction ends this Thursday, March 15!
 
The Black Keys, Kaskade, The Shins, DJ R3hab, Ximena Sariñana and many other musicians are also helping Sweet Relief raise money and awareness by donating their time and instruments to the cause. Find out what you can bid on after the jump.

​Remember that Naked and Famous show that got moved from March 19 to March 20 at the Observatory? The Santa Ana venue got bumped off because the New Zealand electro rockers are playing their song "Young Blood" on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, for their very first national television appearance. And you can win tickets to the show!

​Following up on their promise to bring the love year round, the Do Lab (who throw OC based fest Lightning in a Bottle) and Lucent Dossier Experience have created a very unique event this Friday and Saturday at the Palace Theatre in LA.

For those that don't know, Lucent Dossier is a steam punk, Cirque style dance troupe/electro rock band. Their performances combine live music with experimental theatre, dance and plenty of pyro. They are collaborating with Herakut, an acclaimed German street art duo from Berlin.
This will be a mashup for the ages and one you won't want to miss.

Two lucky readers will receive two pairs of tickets by emailing their full name to Contest@TheDoLaB.com along with "OC Weekly" in the title line. Winners will be selected and emailed their sweet double date seat assignments by 1 p.m. on Friday.

Give these men some shirts!

​DJ/producer and celebrity friend Steve Aoki is asking designers to redesign his official "beard" t-shirt on Facebook (check out the contest here). Lest we get a slew of clown faces on this baby, you should know that the winning design will be used as Aoki's official merchandise and a limited edition of the T-shirt will be sold online via the Dim Mak store and on the DEADMEAT Tour site. The Benihana heir will also wear the winning T-shirt design on the tour (which is huge, considering the photo above).

Deadmeat is Aoki's tour with Dim Mak label mate, dubstep producer Datsik. It kicks of on Jan. 19 in Phoenix and will have SoCal stops in March.

​One of our favorite contemporary music video directors, OC native Chris Marrs Piliero, is giving away a ton of ultra cool music memorabilia from videos he directed. The contest is open on his site, marrsattacks.com until Nov. 19, and the mementos include items from the sets of of Ke$ha, the Black Keys, Cage the Elephant, Britney Spears, Yellowcard, the Used, Taking Back Sunday, the Ready Set, and A Day to Remember.
