Rumored/Confirmed Coachella Artists Start to Trickle In

LAist has about 20 artists they say are "confirmed" for Coachella (coming up soon! April 17-19!), and many more that are "rumored"--and given that just about every act of note is "rumored" for Coachella at this point in the year, a classification that's about as meaningful as last night's Golden Globes (though any night when Tracy Morgan and Bruce Springsteen both get to give acceptance speeches is pretty awesome).

Here's who they say are confirmed:

The Airborne Toxic Event, the Bug, Buraka Som Sistema, Crystal Castles, Drop The Lime, Fleet Foxes, Flying Lotus, Girl Talk, the Hold Steady, the Killers, No Age, Noah and the Whale, Late of the Pier, Los Campesinos!, Peanut Butter Wolf, the Presets, Sébastien Tellier, Themselves, Tinariwen

None of these names are shocking whatsoever; Fleet Foxes at Coachella in 2009 is a bona fide no-brainer. It really shows how much Coachella spoils people when you see a list like that and you're just like, "Oh, OK." I'd like to confirm right now that I won't be seeing The Airborne Toxic Event if they are in fact there. Thought you'd like to know.

And on to the "rumored," list:
Animal Collective, Basement Jaxx, the Black Keys, Black Lips, Blur, Britney Spears, the Comedians of Comedy, Four Tet, the Gaslight Anthem, Glasvegas, Gui Boratto, Gus Black, Heartless Bastards, Hot Little Pony, José González, Keane, KONGCRETE, Mexican Institute of Sound, Monotonix, Morrissey, Mr. Lif, N.A.S.A., Neil Young, OutKast, Plump DJs, the Pretenders, the Prodigy, the Replacements, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Roni Size Reprazent, the Smiths, the Thermals, Turbonegro, We Are Scientists, White Lies, the White Stripes

Uh, OK. Can we just throw anyone in there? Red Hot Chili Peppers--again? Morrissey AND The Smiths? Outkast? Britney Spears? (Well, she does have a day off between Staples Center and Honda Center shows that Saturday...) But is this a rumored list or just a bunch of random names? A lot of these, like Glasvegas, are good bets, but some of these are stretches worthy of Reed Richards himself.

We'll know for sure soon enough, until then I'm going to try and start a "Stone Roses reunite at Coachella but with Joe Jonas in place of Ian Brown" rumor. "Try and start" should be read as "secretly wish were true."
