We repeat,  the Geekeasy--the video game-inspired music and art event that Ned Raggett wrote about this week--won't be held in Santa Ana this weekend.

Apparently the organizers couldn't get the proper city permits for the event. According to organizer Chris Lynch, securing a permit to sell alcohol would take 30 days, a permit to hang art would cost $400. WTF. And also, oops.

Matt Skiba's Santa Ana Show: Canceled

Yes, this is a picture of Matt Skiba's foot
Did you buy tickets to the recently announced Matt Skiba solo show Dec. 1 at the Constellation Room (inside the Galaxy Theatre) in Santa Ana? (The page is gone now, obviously.) And now are you all excited to see the Alkaline Trio singer/guitarist up close and personal with nothing more than a guitar, his enchanting voice and those sweet, sweet eyes that just make you want to skip through strawberry fields and rose gardens?

If so, I've got bad news: The show has been canceled. In fact, Skiba's entire "west coast" tour (I put this in quotation marks because the tour was really four California shows) is now gone the way of the buffalo thanks to his right foot being broken.

Decemberists' Keyboardist Jenny Conlee Diagnosed With Cancer

the-decemberists.jpg

Today, some more bad news: According to Verbicide, the Decemberists' keyboardist, Jenny Conlee, was diagnosed with cancer. In a note on their website and to fans on their mailing list, front man Colin Meloy said the band found out a month ago.

The good news is that Jenny caught it early. And while the prognosis is very, very good for a full recovery, tackling the disease will mean some intensive treatment for our Jenny, as well as a lot of important recovery time.

Meloy says that with Conlee's "fervent blessings," they're pushing forward with their scheduled tour dates this spring and summer.

Anthrax's Scott Ian to Skip Touring Due to Birth of First Child

Scott Ian, Anthrax's rhythm and lead guitar player, just announced he's not going to be touring with the band he formed 30 years ago due to the upcoming birth of his first child.

He said, "This decision to miss these shows was a deeply personal one. I co-founded this band July 18, 1981, and for almost 30 years, I have been there for everything we've ever done. . . . Becoming a father is the biggest, best thing that's ever happened to me, and it made the decision relatively easy. My priority is with my wife and the birth of our first child."

His wife, singer Pearl Aday (Meat Loaf's daughter), is expecting to give birth on July 9.

Ian will still be playing at Big 4 in Indio and the following show in Manila, Philippines, but beginning in May, he will sit out the rest of the tour, including the big Sonisphere shows in Europe. Andreas Kisser from Sepultura will replace Ian on the remaining dates of the tour. Read his whole statement after the jump.
