Rock The Bells To Feature "Virtual Performances" of Ol' Dirty Bastard and Eazy-E

Categories: breaking news

Last night, this year's lineup for the 10th annual Rock The Bells show in San Bernardino was announced and there seems to be a little bit for every type of hip-hop fan out there.

The big news is that after last year's Tupac hologram sighting at Coachella, Rock The Bells is going to double that with the appearance of "original virtual performances" of both Ol' Dirty Bastard and Eazy-E during the respective sets of Wu-Tang Clan and Bone Thugs N Harmony. So basically, that's two holograms for the same low price.

The Rolling Stones to Play Honda Center May 15

Categories: breaking news

After playing five shows last year in London and the greater New York area, the Rolling Stones announced this morning that they'll be embarking on a nine show run of North America as part of their 50 & Counting Tour including a date in Anaheim.

The show will take place at Honda Center on May 15, with an on-sale date still to be determined. Other stops include Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, Toronto, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia before heading back to England for a headlining gig at Glastonbury and Hyde Park in London.

Former guitarist Mick Taylor will join the band on this tour. There isn't any word is former bassist Bill Wyman will at this time, but he did play with the band on a few of the shows late last year.

This should satisfy the demand for shows Stateside, since after all, the Stones were heavily rumored to headline Coachella.

If ticket prices for the London and New York-area shows are any indication of what's to come, fans better be willing to fork over some big bucks for this show.

Categories: breaking news

Last night's New Found Glory show at the Chain Reaction was full of shock and awe, but not in a good way. PureVolume reported first that NFG Chad Gilbert, lead guitarist of New Found Glory was electrically shocked onstage, collapsed and eventually brought backstage.

The Florida rockers finished their set without him, but they did inform the concerned crowd that the guitarist was alright. There's word from the band's Facebook page says that Gilbert was sent to the hospital, but they did confirm what the crowd knew last night: That he's all good and will be playing with the band at tonight's show.

Prince to Play City National Grove of Anaheim [UPDATED]

Categories: breaking news
prince!!!.jpg

[Updated with new ticket information at the bottom of this post.]

Fresh off a widely praised, nearly three-hour set at South-by-Southwest, rumors are running rampant that the Purple One, yes Prince, will be playing a string of shows on the West Coast, including two at the City National Bank Grove of Anaheim on May 7 and 8.

According to The Scenestar, which gets its info from a Prince Spreecast with Seth Everett and Dr. Funkenberry, 3rd Eye Girl have announced West Coast dates as openers for the man formerly known as a symbol.

Like with most things, nothing is official until it's official, but that doesn't mean we can't get excited for Prince's first shows in OC in nine years, back when the Honda Center was called The Pond.

Shrine Expo Hall Says Together As One Cancelled

Categories: breaking news
together as one.jpg

And here we go again...

Today the Shrine Exposition Hall in L.A. confirmed that Go Venture's New Year's Eve Party Together as One is, uh, not coming together. Surprise! it's been cancelled. After hearing word from a tipster that the Shrine phone operators were saying that the event was no more, we called and followed up. This happens less than two months after the EDM promoters cancelled Monster Massive in October at the last possible fucking second. So far, no word on any of Go Ventures' websites or social media that the event is cancelled and the web page to buy tickets to the party is still intact--also not very shocking.

So your options for Labor Day Weekend just got a bit more interesting. On Thursday, entertainment company Pacific Festival (co-founded by DJ Steve Aoki) announced a lineup and ticket info for its new event, Pacific Festival: The Dunes, taking place on Sep. 2 in Newport Beach, featuring performances from Mayer Hawthorne, Poolside, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Fool's Gold and more.

The new festival, co-produced by Pac Fest, with presenting sponsor Identity MG, is a major departure from what many fans remember about last year's Pacific Festival: OC , an EDM-focused blowout of bloated, Coachella-caliber headliners including Cut Copy and Snoop Dogg at Oak Canyon Ranch. This year, the Dunes is different kind of party. Aside from being 50 percent slimmer (half the amount of tickets are on sale this year versus last year), the Dunes mission to bring you "your best day at the beach all summer" is decidedly band-focused, with a much more modest roster of live acts and DJs signed on to play their seaside stage at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina. Hawthorne's smooth, old-school Motown sound (which has long outgrown his celebrated, packed club shows at the Continental Room in Fullerton), is probably a way different headliner than a lot of people were expecting. Then again the Dunes could probably use a little soul.

In addition to the main stage, there's also going to be two other entertainment areas, including one space for DJs and live bands and the other for just set up for DJs and a couple of after parties with lineups still waiting to be announced. Pre-sale tickets for the event are now on sale via the Pacific Festival website along with extra info about the lineup, the event and the new location. According to festival organizers, $1 of every ticket is going to benefit  the Surfrider Foundation  along with a beach cleanup scheduled for the day after the event. See the confirmed lineup after the jump!

Aquabats.jpg
By now, many have heard the sad news that Christian Dasilva, the sound guy who was as much of a part of the fabric at Chain Reaction in Anaheim as the bands that play there,, died after his motorcycle collided with a Lexus sedan. The outpouring of condolences for the 40-year-old's new and pregnant wife Emma and his two daughters, Caidyn and Chloe, has spread onto social networking sites and as far to as bands like The Ataris and Glass House owner Jon Halperin.More »

The Manic Low

There's something about summertime that puts the folks over here at Heard Mentality in a really giving mood. And since few things go together like warm weather and free music, we're offering OC Weekly readers a brand new loud, local concert series called Plugged Into Local-- filled with the best bands this county has to offer.

Starting on Wednesday July 25, Heard Mentality launches this free, monthly band showcase that will be popping up at bars, clubs and other venues all over OC. The first installment features OC punk's diabolical heavy-hitter Jack Grisham (of T.S.O.L. fame) tearing up the stage with his new band The Manic Low at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana. Having just released their debut album Songs For An Up Day  on Moonlight Graham Records, the Huntington Beach trio fuses some shimmering, 60s-tinged good-time energy with Grisham's trademark punk delivery, immortal energy and a slice of pop energy for good measure. And you'll be the first to see since it's their first show before their U.S. tour. The show is free and RSVP only, find out all the details after the jump!
