For most avid A.I. fans, it seems like only yesterday when a young, slightly pale, 16 year-old David Archuleta came on the scene and sang his way into our hearts. Now a bona fide king of the tweens, Archulta madness still hangs in the air even after his season ended.
But before he was swooning the Idol crowd, this kid was honing his skills as a "soulful little Wayne Newton mini-me". That's actually a pretty accurate description when you check out Archuleta's get up in his 2003 semi finalist performance on Star Search. Damn, that hair? That shirt? Adolescent fashion faux pas aside, watch this cute little tyke blow away host Arsenio Hall with his vicious vocal runs on the Alicia Keys song "Fallin'".
It's hard to believe that this kid was only 12years old in this video. Tomorrow, a bold 18-year-old Archuleta makes his first appearance at The Glass House. Though it seems like a strange venue choice for an A.I. alumni, it might add some weight to his indie rock cred. Well, probably not.
I'll be there to see adorable David perform tomorrow! His sold out performances have been amazing so far, can't wait....especially looking forward to Zero Gravity! (Hope he sings in Spanish also.)
David Archuleta rules. he is not only crazy talented, but just a downright genuine good person. i just love watching him having the time of his life. his fans have joined him in contributing to fundraisers for worthy causes. david will truly make a difference in this crazy world we're living in. it's encouraging to see the young people willing to help make a difference. he's an incredible role model. GO DAVID!!!!!!
His voice was changed when he hit puberty, and got the airy golden voice any singers die for. But his skills are still there. He has the most natural talent and music brain. Since Idol, he has grown as quite a performer with / without instruments. He performs sweeping around the whole stage without instrument, sitting on a chair for ballads, then singing with keyboard with his hearts out. He is a multi-entertainer. Soon, American Idol will be very proud of discovering this young talent, and what we have witnessed is just the tip of huge iceberg.
David is not just the king of tweens, he is the king of hearts of all ages. David has an amazing voice, great style and rhythm, a super album, and David and his band put on an exciting concert. He has a couple of surprises in his set list, including the amazing Zero Gravity, a David and Mike Krompass cowrite that is not on his album. I was in the back at the concert I attended and there were plenty of 20, 30, 40-somethings and even 50-somethings like me and they had no kids with them. David's musical knowledge and influences are amazing broad and deep for someone his age. Someone in the business called him a walking jukebox. He is full of music and I look forward to everything he writes and sings in the future.

David' incredible vocals and genuine personality appeals to those of ALL AGES. They are very few 18 year olds that you can say that about.
