Did the Video Music Awards Snub Stitches?
YouTube Screen Capture Better have his money when he comes a'collect.
This Sunday, MTV airs the highly anticipated 31st installment of their Video Music Awards. Always an unpredictable raucous night, there's unfortunately a black cloud looming over Sunday's telecast. That is the complete and total snubbing of Florida rapper Stitches.
Ever since "Brick In Yo Face" hit the internet last April, we've had the bevy of images from the Mazadi Vision directed clip firmly etched in our minds. We at the Weekly also wish we loved anything as much as Stitches loves selling blow. Of course, MTV as a network never aired the clip for presumably the same reason they never aired Neil Young's "This Note's For You," namely an overabundance of references to "Coke." Yet, while Young was nominated and later won Video of the Year, Stitches was left in the dark. While taste is subjective, we feel "Brick In Yo Face" most than holds its own against any of the other Video of the Year nominees, and we're about to put the reasons why in your face. Now, wat'cha gon' do with it?
Iggy Azalea (featuring Charli XCX) -- "Fancy"
Director: Director X
Strengths: A fun revisiting of the 1995 film Clueless, complete with 90s aesthetics and a dead on set design.
Lacks: I PUT THAT BRICK IN YO FACE! NOW WAT'CHA GON' DO WITH IT?!
Sia -- "Chandelier"
Director: Sia and Daniel Askill
Strengths: Masterful editing around a dance performance that's nothing less than utterly spellbinding.
Lacks: BETTER HAVE MY MONEY WHEN I COME A'COLLECT
Beyoncé (featuring Jay-Z) -- "Drunk in Love"
Director: Hype Williams
Strengths: The utterly captivating charisma of hip-hop power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z away from their lavish lifestyle and instead expressing unbridled affection on a black-and-white beach.
Lacks: I LOVE SELLING' BLOOOOOOOOOOOOW!
