Ink 'n' Iron
The Queen Mary
For tattoo and kustom culture enthusiasts, it's hard not to think of the first weekend of June as Christmas, when the annual Ink N Iron Fest approaches for another wild rock-and-roll-abilly weekender event. This year, you've got your familiar attractions--the Motorama Car Show, tattoo contest, an outdoor screen showing vintage movie classics (this year, it's blood-soaked spaghetti Westerns on the program) and scintillating cabaret shows featuring a bevy of leggy beauties. And, of course, kickass bands every day from local homeboy Nick Waterhouse to country legends Merle Haggard and Wanda Jackson; punk visionaries Suicidal Tendencies, The Buzzcocks and The Damned; and psychobilly favorites like Guana Batz, Batmobile and Koffin Katz. In between, you'll have the chance to mingle with talented tattoo artists for that sailor design you always wanted--not to mention all the immaculately coiffed babes everywhere. (Aimee Murillo)

The Donkeys
The Glass House
San Diego's own The Donkeys feature an awareness of soft melodies with light, musical accompaniment developed over time since their full length debut album in 2006. The unprecedented sound from that album haunts their follow ups Living On The Other Side and Born With Stripes by continuing their airy, Real Estate-esque acoustics and vocal harmonies. Their upcoming fourth album Ride The Black Wave foresees a similar route in their musical journey by featuring those familiar soft vibes carefully calculated in each delicate track. Lucky for fans, the wait for a new album is over soon, along with a new tour including a stop at The Glass House. Tonight you'll get to groove along with The Donkeys and fellow chill bands The Blank Tapes and Extra Classic. (Aimee Murillo)

Sunday, June 8
Jubilo Drive
New band Jubilo Drive has all the elements and potential of being the next big local buzz band for Orange County. Hailing from Orange, the quartet feature a heavy alt-rock energy as well as a flair for mellow guitar strains that evoke the idiosyncratic scenery of Southern California. Poised for a summer tour, the boys from Jubilo Drive have a good start on their way to musical success. Good thing for us, there's plenty of chances to catch them live here in OC, like tonight at one of the most revered rock bars around DiPiazza's. Come check out a good show to start the week out right. (Aimee Murillo)
