While you were sipping on discounted margaritas in a drunken Cinco de Mayo stupor last night, the world's most industrious band--the Foo Fighters--were partying in the country's capital, performing an intimate secret show at the 9:30 Club to a crowd of 1,200. The set list (see page 3) will make you wish you lived on the east coast for a day.

Here's what Dave Grohl had to say about the new FF album last night:

"We don't really want to play a bunch of shows until we're ready to come back with all of our new songs. Cause we got all of these new songs and we've been making a new record; and we're almost fucking done. We're this close. Let me tell you, it's unlike anything we've ever done. I can't fucking wait to let you guys hear it so you can hear what we've been doing because honestly, I feel like it's the coolest thing we've ever done as a band. It's cool. We didn't just go into a fucking studio and make a record. We went and did something fucking crazy. I can't wait for you guys to hear it; but you ain't going to fucking hear it tonight. When the time is right, we'll be back. And now we'll have a hundred-and-fucking-69 songs or whatever."

Last night's secret show served as a birthday celebration for Grohl's friend, Big Tony of D.C.'s own long-standing funk band, Trouble Funk. Grohl was dubbed host of the event which featured a 'special guest'; and as fans suspected, the 'guest' was the rest of the Foo Fighters.

What was most gratifying about the event was the amount of enthusiasm toward each act. There were a large number of people in the audience who had never seen the Foo Fighters perform live (to which Grohl responded, "Fuck you; we've only been a band for, like, 20 years"). Nevertheless, the crowd thoroughly enjoyed the eclectic trio of bands and danced their asses off during the journey from punk to funk to rock. If one artist can meld musical genres and bring people together for a night of extended ear-gasmic bliss, it's Grohl.
