You might say the special honorees at this year's OC Music Awards come from very different worlds. On one had, you've got a band who has been hitting us over the head with FM alt-rock for almost two decades. On the other, a guy who has made a career in classical music handling the largest orchestra in the U.S.

Today, the OCMAs announced that Lit will receive the Impact Award for the mark they've made on the OC music scene since their 1997 debut Tripping the Light Fantastic. The band appeared on stage as performers in 2010, following the death of original drummer Allen Shellenberger in 2009. Most remember them for the break out success of their 1999 sophomore effort, A Place in the Sun. Though their heyday is behind them now, the band emerged last year with their fifth studio album, A View From the Bottom. While they've pretty much kept with the trend of honoring KROQ darlings and big name rockers for the Impact Award (previous recipients include The Vandals, Sugar Ray, Social Distortion and Thrice), it's clear that celebrating a major player in classical music does add some diversity to the to the spectrum of honorees at the OCMAs this year.

Pacific Symphony Music Director Carl St. Clair, now in his 23th season with the orchestra, is the recipient for the Lifetime Achievement Award for his development of the symphony's artistic vision and the fostering of distinguished musical programming in Orange County.

Previous winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award include such longtime luminaries as Dick Dale, Martin Brown, Jim Washburn, Stan Freese at this year's 12th Annual OC Music Awards ceremony happening March 9 at the City National Grove of Anaheim.
