The Weekly is sad to report that local skateboarder John Sirmon passed away on Saturday after a long battle with colon cancer.

After being diagnosed in October 2011, a large portion of OC's skateboarding community rallied around Sirmon, hosting benefit concerts and silent auctions to help fund his cancer treatment. A donation site--savesermon.com--was also created in his honor.

Sirmon, who was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer, has worked with half a dozen skateboarding companies as a team manager and and a mentor for young skaters trying to become pros. Known as a gentle giant in the local scene, there has been an outpouring of grief on his Facebook page.

Funeral services for Sirmon will be held at Hilgenfeld Mortuary, 120 E. Broadway, Anaheim, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. More details to follow on Heard Mentality.

John was a dear friend of mine since we were 15 years old. We had a great friendship that I will never find in anyone else. He is loved and will be missed by all.
