She Wants Revenge
The Observatory
Is that the sound of the 1980s reemerging from the mists of time? No, it's just the austere electronic dance sonics of She Wants Revenge. Rocking their Joy Division meets Interpol sound, the San Fernando band will be on hand to make you forget you're a human and more of a dark 'n sexy dance machine. Unfortunately, their gig on Friday at the Observatory will be their last OC gig for a while--this past summer the darkwave duo announced that they're putting SWR on "indefinite hiatus" in order to pursue individual projects. Just the fact that they won't be creating their shadowy, depressed sounds makes us well, kinda sad. But for local fans of the band, this is your chance to scramble down to Santa Ana to see the band make its last stand in this corner of their home state. --Brandon Ferguson

Nosaj Thing, Free the Robots, Deejay Cocoe and Wendy City
Detroit Bar
Taking a bite out of the OC/LA beat scene should prove to be quite satisfying when Alpha Pup stalwarts Nosaj Thing and Free the Robots take over Detroit Bar for another bass-riddled installment of hip-hop culture from presenters Abstract Workshop and Collaborative Media. Bringing crates and laptops full of head-bobbing, esoteric beats, this pair of innovative selectors are as hot right now as they've ever been, touring and playing shows all over the world. This week, our locals only column highlights Free the Robots--born Chris Alfaro--who over the years has graduated from unknown local DJ to OC's beat ambassador taking his loopy, jazz-centric style out of places like Low End Theory and exposing it world wide. Of course we always like to see Alfaro (who is also co-owner of the Crosby in Santa Ana) check in with a home town crowd and unpack a new bag of banging tracks and turntable tricks. The line up is definitely sweetened by Abstract Workshop co-founder Deejay Cocoe and the deft DJ skills of Wendy City.--Nate Jackson

Jack's 7th Show
Verizon Wireless Amphitheater

It's one of those rare occasions to actually wear the Hammertime pants that you keep tucked away in the closet--and get away with it. The legendary MC Hammer is performing at Jack's 7th Show, 93.1 Jack FM's celebration of all that was great in the late '80s through mid '90s music scene. Relive music's good ol' days with a lineup that also includes Gin Blossoms, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Joe Walsh, Toto, and Missing Persons (featuring Dale Bozzio). From rap to new wave, the wide-ranging show brings back a moment in time that's hard for anyone to forget. Plus, Jack's 7th Show benefits Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), a nonprofit organization that provides information, resources and support to families affected by the disorder.--Jessica Ford
