Watch out Sweden, Orange County now has their own House Mafia in Minaya and Vikus. From OC nightclub openers to overnight Beatport stars, our local two guns went blazing with their rework of Archie's, "Desire." Just after one week of it's release and having a M&V makeover, it landed #4 on the Progressive House Top 100 Release chart and #42 on the overall Beatport Release chart.
Always poised to hit the stage with smiles and hands in the air, for these two OC'ers, shit just got real. They now join the ranks of Steve Angello, Tiesto and Avicii at the top of the EDM producing realm. In their recent successes, Vikus commented, "It's definitely an honor. When you're right next to the guys you've idolized over the years like Angello and Woods, it solidified what you're doing. Clearly, we're headed in the right direction."
Not wanting to diminish the big beat, ravey trance aspect of Archie's cut, they stayed to their roots by taking a Tritonal-esque approach, as well as bringing out the heavy bass line.
On the other side of the spectrum, Minaya says, "It's a bit overwhelming," while seeing M&V next to EDM heavy hitters and Toolroom Records. "We are just two regular guys from Orange County, who really love music," he says.
With the recent controversy of DJs buying Facebook likes and DJ Mag's top 100 votes, this OC duo are staying clear of that storm, while climbing the polls naturally. Their Facebook page currently has 1,120 likes, but with a Beatport debut like this one, that figure will probably get a bump. Not being content with their recent success, Minya said their goal is to,"keep finding new ways to challenge ourselves."
Set to release an original track in October, you can listen to their latest podcast mix titled "Human Traffic Vol. 4.
