[Editor's Note: Every Thursday, in addition to bombarding you with blog posts, this newspaper does something really crazy...we write a print version! Here's a taste of our top stories this week]
1) Our lead story this week checks in on the English Beat, and their tireless frontman Dave Wakeling. Digging into the storied past of the UK-born 2 Tone ska legends, there's plenty of historical insight about the days when the ska scene was just reaching the birth of it's second wave, which put bands like the Beat at the forefront. Also, ever wonder why the band chose to use a hip-twisting cartoon girl as their logo? Find out here. The band play this Friday at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano.
3) The Locals Only column this week goes to the much-chirped about Long Beach outfit Wild Pack of Canaries. The products of Wilson High School, founders Rudy De Anda and Alfred Hernandez pieced together a sizeable squad of local musicians to create a chaotic, complex brand of indie pop that they hope will become emblematic of their local music scene...mover over Snoop Dogg and Sublime. They Play Thurs., Oct. 4 at the Prospector in Long Beach.
4) Our Ask Exene column tackles the subject of parents who might be a little on the bitchy side, but still need help from their kids, either physically or financially. How do you deal with that? Find out.
