With no shortage of festivals happening this month, it's always our job to make sure you're aware that for every massive, corporate event, there's one inventive, DIY blowout in dire need of your support. Enter:
Woodystock 2012.
Headlined by the swaggering, riff-heavy rock of the
Relative Strangers the grassroots local festival happening tomorrow at the
Elks Lodge Park in
Garden Grove is in its second year and sports one of the most diverse lineups we've seen all summer. The fest is being produced and curated by
Yorba-Linda based organizer
David Toyos.
Other noteworthy acts include Americana songstress Nicole Vaughn and art rockers Nilu. Not to mention the cavalcade of interesting sounds that'll be represented (the flier really says it all). Seriously, where else are you going to get access to such hard-to-find genres as "Avant Junkyard" (i.e May McDonough & Company), "California Country/Party Rock" (see Post Trauma) or "Two Dudes Dipped in Soul Sauce" (aka Lobo Incognito)?
With an undoubtedly artistic approach to their lineup, this day-long celebration is worth spending your Sunday on. Admission is free (though parking is still $10) and it starts at 12:30 p.m. over at 11551 Trask Ave. All ages are welcome!
