As we continue to enjoy the final slice of summer, August brings the second installment of Plugged Into Local. Yes folks, this is actually a real thing now. And considering how many of  faithful followers of Heard Mentality showed up to the first one, it seems we have no choice but to keep giving you what you want. This month, we bring you another showcase of the best live music OC has to offer, featuring a trio of acoustic acts that'll have you stomping your feet, clapping your hands and rolling up your flannel sleeves to knock back a whiskey or two. Did we mention it's free?

Plugged Into Local is coming to Time Out Tavern down in good 'ol Aliso Viejo (South County y'all. Woop! woop!) on Wednesday, Aug. 29 for a headlining set by veteran OC troubadour Billy Kernkamp. One of the music scene's most magnetic performers, Kernkamp  trades in a studied and soulful brand of country-inflected folk that's more road-worn and romantic than it is weepy, if that makes sense. Backed by his band the Brides, songs like "Black Blood" are offer a Jayhawks-esque vibe that is rather ass-kicking. To prove that statement, you needn't look farther than the identical cowboy boot butt tattoos he and his bandmates got together (no, seriously). With fresh recordings in the works, this set outta be rife with spankin' new material. The show is a free, RSVP-only event. Find out how to get in after the jump.

Supporting Kernkamp are popular South County surf soul crooner Micah Brown (who  releases his new record The Isle of Her next month) and the rollicking, pub-crawling folk of Live Oak Revue.

All you have to do to get in is RSVP at PIL's web page and we'll get you on the list. Space is limited so get on this ASAP! Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9p.m.

I am sorely disappointed in this choice for a venue or promotion. Just as the one commenter noted below, this place doesnt check id's, drinks are overpriced and have a horrible selection. Not to mention, ITS IN ALISO!! Who in their right mind wants to drive down that far for a horrible venue? Certainly not myself...Id rather go to the Copper Door, that's a place I like...

Classy pick for a venue, no website and terrible reviews on Yelp that suggest the place is actually not safe (because of bad security and rude/violent security guards), has overpriced drinks, lets underaged people drink, and wont listen to their customers complaints/wont control their security guards. Way to support local music by putting it in a trashiest and unsafest venue possible, where all ages cant even enjoy it.

@Dean Hmm, Violent? Trashy? Unfit for kids? Yeah...kind of like our paper. Move along, son.
