Last night, the Yost Theater hosted the dynamic electro duo from Rio de Janeiro, Felguk.  Felguk didn't just come to say hello, they started the weekend off with with big house sounds and arena anthems for all to dance to.

​After "2nite" was chosen for the theme song of EDC 2010, Filipe and Gustavo of Felguk have been on a roll, and they hit the streets of Santa Ana last night to kick off to their North American tour. Last night they showcased their originals and electrifying remix with Dirty South and Thomas Gold, "Eyes Wide Open." The dueling DJs showed the intimate crowd of the Yost theater what Brazil has to offer, with a massive arena performance.

When the duo hit the stage, it sounded like a Dolby Digital bass sound check, which turned into System of a Down's "Chop Suey." The OC crowd crackled with energy. Felguk created a nifty transition into Skrillex's dubstep phenomenon, "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," after which the set evolved into electro house, then segued into the Red Hot Chili Peppers Hit "Other Side". When this song hit the speakers, the crowd sang along word for word as Felguk muted the track. That led David Guetta's "Titanium feat. Sia," and then launched a brutal dubstep session.

​The LED wall was akin to something from the Matrix, with neon green lights that turned into a chaotic journey through a wormhole. When there weren't mind bending elusions on the wall, Felguk's name was displayed in 3D. Felguk's jazz Nintendo-esque lazer-like sounds matched the stellar light show the Yost puts on night in and night out.

One of the most exiting mixes of the night was an intense electro house remix of Skrillex's "Bangarang" which was spun with a slow mix version of Nero's "Must be the Feeling." The filthiness of the the Brazilian tandem transformed the Yost into an underground party palace. The crowd was singing like a crazed arena party to the song "Levels," which features a sample from the late Etta James' "Something's Got a Hold On Me."

With all the madness of the Atari-like sounds and hypnotizing lights, Felipe jumped into the crowd for a short surf to keep the crowd's energy peaking as Felguk ended their set.

The crowd:  18 and over crowd, but it didn't dampen the mood. The Yost Theater still has a 21-and-over vibe. Felipe's hair-flipping and Gustavo's constant fist-pumping were an indication of how they transferred their energy to the crowd.

Critic's Bias: I'm not a huge fan of the 18 and over crowd, but it was tolerable since it was Felguk. It felt like a mini stage at an Insomniac rave.
