Fullerton's 'The Muck' Presents a Night of Poetry and Music for San Valentin
|Art piece by José Lozano|
Poets Gloria Enedina Alvarez, Sushu Foster, and Olga Garcia are the assembled wordsmiths for the homanje to the loved and the unloved.
Musical entertainment will feature Adriana Alvarez singing classic rancheras, the ballads of half-Hawaiian, half-Mexican vocalist Araianna Gouivea, who will also do spoken word pieces with a the accompaniment of a saxophone player, and last but not least, Latin Grammy-nominated La Santa Cecilia singer La Marisoul performing boleros in her passionate, inimitable voice.
"It's a tribute for the loved and the recently unloved," Lozano says of the event. "It's dedicated all the manifestations of love, the word itself and the concept." The agony and ecstasy of it all will be captured in word and song. "Boleros and rancheras are very poetic," the artist adds, noting the night is open to singles and couples alike. Mini pan dulce will serve to sweeten up the tastes of the evening and raffle items for art might give lucky attendants an early up on a Valentine's Day gift.
Hint: This will go over better than a romantic night of Netflix and Taco Bell! But if you can't make the event and find yourself near a radio or internet connection, the next best thing is to tune into 1680 AM KNOC radio and listen to or live stream the performances!
Poetas and Songs for San Valentin at The Muckenthaler Cultural Center, 1201 West Malvern Avenue, Fullerton, Thu. Feb. 9, 7 p.m. $5 for members. $10 for non-members. For mature audiences only!
