Chi Cheng, Deftones Bassist, Showing Signs of Emerging From Three Year Coma

Bassist Chi Cheng of the Deftones was involved in a high-speed car accident in Santa Barbara in November 2008. Cheng, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected from his vehicle and consequently fell into a coma.

Now, three years and two months later, Cheng is finally showing signs of recovery and even responding to commands as he's starting to emerge from his state of coma.

CraveOnline.com is reporting that Cheng is now able to move his leg and vocalize "through basic sounds" upon command--and there's even video of his amazing progress. Check it out after the jump.





It's important to note the persistent support of Cheng's family, friends and fans throughout this tragic ordeal. Cheng's family insurance halted coverage in the beginning stages of treatment  and so the Deftones, along with several other bands and musicians, held several benefits to help foot the medical bill.

In 2010, "One Love for Chi" was a two-part benefit show at the Slidebar (pictured) to not just offer financial assistance but also raise awareness of the importance of wearing a seatbelt while riding in a vehicle. The night featured P.O.D., Suicide Silence, LIT, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theatre, Dave Ellefson of Megadeth, Travis Miguel of Atreyu, the Letter Black, Steven Adler and Slash of Guns N' Roses.

i am a former Project Manager for Brain Tunnelgenix (btt) www.braintunnelgenix.com in Connecticut.  If you want, contact them and ask if you can use the following procedure, it is patented, and it might help.  You take 2 pieces of ice, wrap them in a towel, and place them on opposite side of the upper part of the nose, somewhat where the eyes, nose, and skull come together (the upper corner the eye sockets).  Leave the ice there for 20 minutes.  Then place warmth there for 20 minutes, then leave it for 20 minutes.  Cycle this for 5 hours a day, for 2 weeks.  This technology is in it's infancy, but it could help.
