Hustaid Benefit for Manager Jason 'Huey' Husted at Detroit Bar This Saturday

Longtime Detroit Bar General Manager Jason "Huey" Husted received both the happiest and scariest news of his life just four months ago. While his wife was in the hospital giving birth to their first born in February, he started to feel ill. Husted entered the hospital with a fever and inflamed lymph nodes. Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), one of the rarest forms of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL).

Fortunately, Huston's doctor informed him that there is a 60 to 70 percent chance that his cancer will not return. "You know, I feel good," said Husted. "After the first round of treatment, I was fine. I've been a little nauseous and had some headaches. The medicine kills both red and white blood cells, which has also made me a little fatigued. It's going to be a long summer, but I'm going to beat this."

The Memphis Group is throwing a "Hustaid" benefit at Detroit Bar on Saturday, June 11 at 9 p.m. to help fund Husted's expenses. The night will include music from DJ Cocoe, DJ Scotty Coats, Lil Brandon, Tea Long, DJ Danny Love and Matt Rillera. They will also auction off items like shoes autographed by Travis Barker, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim tickets and memorabilia, tattoos from Huntington Ink and much more. There is a $10 entry donation, and 25 percent of bar sales and 100 percent of silent auction donations will go to help with his medical bills and five-month leave of absence from work. "Honestly, the support from my wife, family and friends is unbelievable. You never think anything like this would happen to you, but it's nice to know that everyone is there to offer support during this time," said Husted.

Memphis Café manager Amy Silva has known Husted for fifteen years, and she is excited that so many people are willing to help. "People want to show their support. He has so many friends and people who love him," she said. "We are hoping to raise a lot of money, and any amount will help." The Memphis Group is also creating a website for those who would like to donate money for the benefit. This summer, Tin Lizzy and Memphis at the Santora will also hold benefits to support their comrade.

Husted will be undergoing chemotherapy on Friday and won't be able to attend his own benefit, but his wife and family will be there. "I'll be watching the event from our cameras on my laptop sitting in the hospital bed," laughs Husted. "So I'll be there in spirit."
