The Art of iPhone Photography

Facebook photo albums are littered with the digital debris of people spontaneously whipping out their iPhones and snapping the most mundane images. Kittens, gay beefcake, drunken frat parties, new babies, Republican Congressmen answering Craigslist postings--an influx of images, a lot of people snapping, but precious little art resulting.

Now is your chance to change all of that.
Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (OCCA), along with Pixelsatanexhibition.com, has put out a call for iPhone-based photography. According to the press release, "All photos must be shot with and processed using an Apple iPhone. No computer-based processing allowed. Any model of the iPhone may be used."

Don't even think about using Adobe Photoshop tricks to make your photos look better, but feel free to wallow in Apple apps to tweak the images. Submission fees are usually barely veiled attempts to make rent by the galleries hosting calls for art, but OCCA's entry is fairly cheap: You can submit up to five entries for a mere 30 bucks. The winner's photos will be part of a month-long exhibition at its Santa Ana space, March 31 through April 30. Click here for guidelines.
