The 25-year-old actress/musician Lily Allen is launching new boutique label "In the Name Of," which will receive financial backing from Sony Music. The first signing for the label is Brooklyn electro-pop duo Cults, whose debut album will be released later this year.
It's been reported by The Guardian that Allen will receive £100,000 from Sony. The hefty sum bested several other record labels' bids. Aside from the new label, Allen recently launched her Covent Garden clothing shop Lucy In Disguise, and she got engaged to longtime beau Sam Cooper on Christmas Day. Obviously between her label, the clothing line and the new engagement, she will be a very busy lady.
But what's great about Lilly Allen is that she's always been interested in the music industry besides simply recording her own material. We respect her musical taste, and we hope she will give other interesting artists a chance.
