Echo and the Bunnymen Head to the House of Blues on May 22

Let's hope the rainy weather continues, so we can break out our dark raincoats and forget about tanning for a while. Liverpudlian post-punk legends Echo and the Bunnymen are touring North America once again, and they are making a stop at the House of Blues in Anaheim on May 22. According to their website, they will be playing in their entirety their first two albums, 1980's Crocodiles and 1981's Heaven Up Here.

This leaves out many of their later classics ("Bring on the Dancing Horses," anyone?), but each of these albums is a textbook example of the push-pull between light and dark that typifies Echo's psychedelia- and garage-tinged stylings.

After breaking up in 1989 following the tragic death of drummer Pete DeFreitas, the group reformed in 1997 in one of rock's most successful comebacks. They've recorded new material and toured regularly since, but this marks the first time they will perform an explicitly early-material-only tour. It should be a treat to longtime fans and a cool primer for young whippersnappers raised on groups such as Interpol, the Killers and She Wants Revenge who want to hear from whom many of their favorites found some inspiration.

You can purchase tickets here. And below, listen to "A Promise" off Heaven Up Here.
