Caifanes Reunite to Play Coachella?

The Spanish-language music press is abuzz with news of a confirmed Caifanes reunion in 2011. The legendary rock en español band from Mexico City has made amends after fifteen years apart as they set to perform at the huge outdoor Vive Latino music festival in the D.F. Tensions between singer Saúl Hernández and guitarist Alejandro Marcovich dissolved the Caifanes in 1995--after they had some of the most memorable songs of an emerging Mexican rock scene.

Hernández continued on performing without Marcovich in a refitted version of the band renamed Jaguares. The two, however, have apparently "smoothed things over" and are ready to reemerge in a major way, joining forces to appear on a festival bill with the likes of Los Enanitos Verdes, Enjambre, the Chemical Brothers, Carla Morrison and more.

While the Spanish-language media has focused in on Vive Latino, the Caifanes reunion could also be a major centerpiece to next year's anticipated lineup for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio. A new website, Caifanes2011.com, shows two concert dates on its front page. One is for the Mexico City Music Festival on April 9th. The other simply reads "Indio" with no further details as to when and where it will take place.

Although a fake lineup has already been released for Coachella, it's fun to speculate that the Caifanes reunion will be headed for the Festival Vive Latino's big-stage counterpart in Indio.

In the meantime, the band's website offers fans the ability to join a mailing list for official information and updates as they come.
