A Gimmick From Record Stores and Slayer on Black Friday? No Way!

Thanksgiving, Schanksgiving. As a music geek who lives to shop, Black Friday gimmicks are near and dear to my heart.

This year has a bunch of Black Friday gimmicks that sound pretty interesting.
First, the people who organize "Record Store Day" in April have put together an event called "Back to Black," where indie music stores will be carrying exclusive and limited LP and CD releases by Metallica, U2, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen, Cee-Lo, Iron & Wine, and more. ("Back to Black," because most of the releases will be in vinyl form). Watch out for rarities such as George Harrison's All Things Must Pass and Jimi Hendrix's Christmas EP, Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year.

And then there's Slayer's Black Friday gimmick, wherein the band will release the track, "Atrocity Vendor," as part of a special limited-edition 7-inch single.

Kerry King wrote the track during 2009's World Painted Blood sessions and will be released only through Metal Club, the indie store consortium that "works to connect the metal community with their local 'brick and mortar' record stores."
