Is knowing all the lyrics to "Bad Romance" a prerequisite for the University of Virginia's Graduate Arts & Sciences student Christa Romanosky's "GaGa for Gaga: Sex, Gender, and Identity" class?
We don't know, but we do know that in the introductory course to argumentative essay writing class, students analyze how the costume-changing superstar pushes social boundaries with her work.
Romanosky chose the theme of the class, she said, to establish a framework for critical analysis for the pre-requisite class. It's not just a novelty: "We're exploring how identity is challenged by gender and sexuality and how Lady Gaga confronts this challenge," she explained.
