It had to happen sooner or later: the inevitable Boob Backlash.

After the skirmishes and scuffles of the summer, the innocent bystanders of the Boob Wars have risen up, and they've set their sights on their first targets: Katy Perry on Sesame Street.

Yesterday, we mentioned that Sesame Street had booked Boob War superpower Katy Perry as one of its musical guests for its 41st season. Apparently, her segment, which had been taped but not aired except in a preview online, outraged some online viewers, who claimed it showed too much skin or cleavage or Russell Brand handprints. The skuttlebutt is that her spot, which was scheduled to run New Year's Eve, won't air or at least will be modified (shades of Lindsay Lohan and Herbie).

According to TMZ (watch the video at the source):

The song made its way to YouTube Monday and racked up nearly a million views. But some parents started complaining her cleavage was too front and center. We've learned producers have decided not to air the song on the show.

Among the parental comments:

-- "You can practically see her t*ts. That's some wonderful children's programming."

-- "they're gonna have to rename it cleavage avenue"

-- "my kid wants milk now"

In a country that's still uneasy over nursing in public, this types of reaction isn't surprising. But that doesn't make it anymore frustrating or exasperating. So what can you do about it? Spread the word that breasts--naked, covered, obscured, silhouetted, etc.--are natural and, quite frankly, mundane, be they on an album cover or a pop star appearing on a children's show.
