Want an Elvis Potato Head? Go to Elvis Fest in Costa Mesa This Weekend
After the jump, five reasons you should go.
1. Elvis will be everywhere.
There are several Elvis "tribute artists" (i.e., cover bands + impersonators) singing songs from Blue Hawaii.
2. You'll get to hula. And win bread.
There will be a free hula lesson for the public by the the Halau Hula Lani Ola dancers, and anyone who hulas on stage will receive a free loaf of King's Hawaiian bread.
3. You can witness karaoke Elvis in the flesh.
There will be a Crème de la King Elvis Karaoke Contest starting at 11 a.m. in which four finalists will be selected to compete at KaraokeFest 2010, the largest event of its kind in the world, held at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona on Sept. 12.
4. Elvis is now a Mr. Potato Head!
Mr. Potato Head Elvis will make its Official West Coast launch, and a nine-foot-six stilt-walking Elvis and hula dancer will be hovering around you throughout the fest.
5. Elvis Fans Can All Converge in One OC Location
Elvis fan clubs, Jailhouse Rockers of California and All Shook Up will be offering membership information and selling memorabilia and souvenirs.
If you can't wait for actual impersonators, have a listen to the best Elvis cover on earth: Pet Shop Boys' take on "You Are Always On My Mind."
The 11th Annual Elvis Fest is on Sunday, August 22, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; admission is $2.
