UPDATE: MTV gives you a rundown of all Aguilera's pop culture influences in her new video here. Christina Aguilera's video for "Not Myself Tonight," the first single from her new album Bionic, has all the elements that would've made it controversial in 1982 -- jewelry and bondage, explicit sexual scenes with both men and women. These days, though, it's much more of a talking piece because it looks like she's pushing the crazy sexy outfit envelope -- wearing bejeweled bondage pieces, five-inch eyelashes, six-inch heels -- and co-opting Lady Gaga's steez. (Watch it after the jump.)
The more I watch it now, the more it seems like it's parodying
Lady Gaga (there's even a telephone scene!) but it doesn't quite make it
ironically, so it must have been done in earnest. Perez Hilton does a side-by-side comparison on his blog. Blonde afro? Check. Hot, shirtless man in bed? Check. A gaggle of back-up dancers in white bikinis? Check. It all seems to add up.
Aguilera's only saving grace is that she sings waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Gaga. Unfortunately, both divas' songs are only tolerable with matching eye-candy (I love Gaga's videos), so that really doesn't matter now, does it?
