SATURDAY: Watson Twins at Fingerprints, Long Beach

Sisters Leigh and Chandra Watson
The Watson Twins' supporting roles on Jenny Lewis' femme-folk solo venture Rabbit Fur Coat may have brought the Twins to mainstream consciousness, but since then, the sisters have stepped out of the shadows and have come into their own by steadily releasing daydreamy and wistful musings. Blending a concoction of influences--alt-country, gospel, indie rock--the Twins' sound is all over the place, but in a good way.

The Twins' latest record Talking To You, Talking To Me, released Feb. 9 on Vanguard, continues the sisters' sultry forlorn, heavily southern-influenced sound, but this time with a much more gospel and soul-inspired tilt, even performing a cover of Sade's "Sweetest Taboo" this morning during their live session on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic.

In support of the album, the Watson Twins are trekking through a short tour, making a stop at Fingerprints in Long Beach Saturday for a free in-store performance. The only catch: the guest list is only open to those who purchase a Watson Twins CD, which gets you priority entry and a special event poster.

The Watson Twins play Fingerprints Record Store, 4612 E. 2nd St., Long Beach, Saturday March 13. Tickets given after CD purchase. All ages.
