Tonight,
Alex's Bar--Long Beach's favorite hard-to-find-haunt--is packing in a lengthy lineup of innovative indie rock featuring LA band
Dios (pictured) as well as local favorites
Bella Novela,
Forcefield ON, Triceratops (featuring members of
RX Bandits) and
Eugene and the 1914. Just in case you were wondering how many ways there are to trip out on lovesick guitar, smart arrangements and spacey atmospherics, each band manages to bring it to you in myriad shades of awesomeness.
Even though Friday's are typically reserved for beer-swilling party tunes, the mood of tonight's show may call for some "smokier" substances as warm layers of reverberated bliss cross over the steady beats and rich harmonies on Dios tunes like "All Said + Done," and "Epileptic Tunnel Visions." Things will also get a burst of distorted drama when Bella Novela's self-described "Spaghetti Western Wizard Rock" and Triceratops hit the stage and crank the amps up to 11.
Rounding out the night's oddly satisfying line-up are Eugene and the 1914, another Long Beach staple who trade in delicate, Tom Petty-esque pop with a slew of interesting instrumental flourishes. We definitely suggest you stop by to flesh out the crowds and breath some drunken life into the Alex's crimson, alcoholic shrine to the Day of the Dead.
