Approximately 800 zillion records were released in the past 12 months, and that's just the ones issued on old-fashion CD. Like never before, definitive tallies of the year's greatest are absurd. But us music geeks still like to see what others were obsessed with--even if it's just to get a head shake and chuckle out of seeing which 30-year-old band's album Rolling Stone picked for their No. 1 slot.

- Metacritic comes to same conclusion, crunches the numbers and goes with Merriweather Post Pavilion.
- Spin picks Merriweather Post Pavillion, as well, chooses Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Zero" as best song.
- Said the Gramophone chooses Sharon Van Etten spectral "Much More Than That" as best song.
- Rolling Stone crowns U2's No Line on the Horizon album of the year.
- Paste dubs the Avett Brothers' I And Love And You No. 1 album--Animal Collective finishes second.
